Parcel appears stuck in customs

Was contacted today by a gal (US) who purchased something from me which was mailed on June 10th, was processed June 11th in Wpg, then Jun 13 says international shipment has arrived in foreign county, inbound into customs, origin post is preparing shipment, processed through Toronto A, & international item being forwarded to destination county Mississauga, June 15 processed through UPS facility ISC Chicago, item presented to import customs, international shipment has arrived in a foreign country, June 16th item has been sent to customs in the destination country. Nothing since.  Which means it has been stuck in customs for

9 days? Is this normal? This item was sold for $85.99 USD & originated in Indonesia. Buyer is asking if I can help track it for her. Is anyone else experiencing these problems & does anyone know how we go about putting a trace on it or contacting someone?

I did see a post about items being returned but this does not seem to be the case here, at least not documented. Appreciate any help anyone can give. Thanks.

There's a few threads in this forum on this, lots of parcels are being stuck at Customs in Chicago. It's usually goods made in China, but there've been some reports of non-China made goods getting stuck.

So far as we can tell, it's the Chicago port of entry that's the problem.

Yes, there are several threads on the matter. Chicago is a black hole at the moment.

I have several packages trapped there right now, with the longest one being in customs for ten days now.

me  too.  2 packages stuck in Chicago.  10 days and 9 days.  No clue what the issue is and nothing can be done about it.  Could be computer problems at Chicago, could be a trial run of checking every single package by hand.  Who knows.

The possible good news is that i've heard that INR claims will not be granted while items are stuck in Customs.  Not sure how true that is.

I also have a few packages stuck in customs. Both 8 days now. Keep in mind these are handmade art supplies…not mass produced Chinese **bleep**. Trump will go down in history as the worst president in American history. Mark my words!

My longest one just got released by customs this morning (11 days total) and appears to be moving, so fingers crossed.

It 100% has to do with China regulations, otherwise there wouldn't be reports of items from China being returned to sender directly from Chicago. They're clearly using Chicago ICS as a trial of some kind to further scutinize packages. It's the only logical explanation. It's not clear exactly what's happening to cause 10+ days of delays though - are they opening every package to confirm contents? I doubt we'll ever get a clear answer; Canada Post is just going to say it's unaware of any issues, and good luck getting in touch with anyone at a US customs border facility.

Our one hope at the moment is the cross-border shippers who are seemingly pressuring Canada Post to investigate this, as they're financially invested in it. But even they haven't put out any new statements in like a week.

In my recent conversations with CP I was told that you cannot even open a trace until the parcel is technically considered late. Throw in the investigation time at that point it makes it difficult to provide any info to a hopefully patient buyer.

Finally got an update in tracking today after 10 days of nothing while in customs saying it's on the move again.

@videotimeplus

The bottleneck seems to be Chicago. My shipments via LAX are clearing in 1 to 3 days max.
