Canada Border Agency opened it. "Area Control List Country".
It was a glove box handle for a car.
Can someone explain this to me.

Belarus.

Maybe there are prohibitions shipping car parts to some former Soviet Union satellites?

Look what I found:
An Individual Export Permit (IEP) is required for United States origin goods exported to Iran, Cuba, North Korea, Syria and Area Control List countries. Presently, Belarus, Democratic People’s Republic of North Korea and Myanmar are on the Area Control list.

Do that include items originating from Canada also Inuk ?
03-27-2013 11:29 AM
Don't know. I did not mark country of origin. I will need to phone.
I'm thinking because Cuba and NK are on the list, it is just an American thing. Of course, why is a purely Cdn transaction subject to American rules?

I was wondering the same thing since you are shipping from Canada.
Could be an American thing.
Interesting post. We learn something new every day.

Well, I phoned. A very specific question aimed at someone giving broad answers. The gist I got was individuals really can't be mailing to these places. Businesses can, with an export number. With my GST # I can get an export number and that helps parcels move.
I'll dig out my GST# and apply for an export #.

Sounds like it would be a lot easier not to ship to these countries than get an export number.

Inuk has Great Margins according to his previous posts.
Whatever extra costs he has will be made up rather quickly.

I ship anywhere. As BB says, my margins allow me to do anything. This week has been a little rough, not much to choose from. I have managed to get seven widgets, my retail of about $450, for $30.

Anyone who goes through Auto Wreckers outside in the cold looking for unique parts gets everything they deserve.
Like everyone mentions, "Find A Niche", obviously Inuk has found one & has done well.
Finding that Niche will be very important in the next couple of tears.

There was a week, back in Feb when it was -45C with the wind. I opted not to go out. My favourite temp to work in? -10C.
I have a kewl one I have developed. IAC, intake air control, valves for Honda Civics. I get them for nothing and sell them for $40. Kids fiddle with this part, break it, and the car won't run. I have sold these all over the world.
Trunk latches for everything. How do people break these? I dunno. Two bolts and out it drops. Costs me a dollar and I sell them for $30-$60.
