I got a message from eBay about a week ago reminding that after February 29-th they will be much stricter on Product Identifiers and will implement serious control and discontinue GTC listing for items without such entries.

May be because of this program they are not giving any Promos, so they will not be swamped with millions of items which are still without identities?

But not all items sold on eBay have these special "identifier" numbers, do they? I sell used clothes.... I would be pretty stumped if someone asked me to come up with a product number for each item, or even one! What about people that sell handmade things on here?

Product details are required in certain categories..... and there are rules about how to use product details.... and most important what not to do...

Product details are available in other categories, but not an absolute requirement.

I sell books.... books have an ISBN if published after a certain date.

The catalogue for books can be defined as a mess looking for a place to happen.... Too many book sellers use the catalogue... without "Thinking" and without understanding the book they will be selling.....

The catalogue for books could never become mandatory.

I have typed in all my UPC numbers. eBay does not recognized them as they are around 25 years old. It comes up as Invalid Value and listing is shown as having error.

There should be some guidelines how to deal with such a situation, i.e. where to find the proper number (if it even exists).

I do my best to enter identifiers as much as possible but I find the system is not properly equipped and provides inaccurate description for the book when I enter ICBN in the beginning of book's listing. Therefore I enter ICBN in further field leaving my own version of the title and characteristics.
