Shipping from Canada

Hi Everyone,

Completely new to shipping items from Canada to US/Canada. I'm selling small items - fits within a letter envelope.

1. I want to ask the community what is the cheapest shipping method?

2. Do you always need tracking? I've shipping a couple items in the past using Canada Post without tracking and the buyer claimed not to get the package and they got a full refund.

Shipping from Canada

1.) Canada Post.

Get a Small Business Solutions card from Canada Post. It's on the website somewhere.

Worth 5% off many services and you will need it for SnapShip and Shippo (the other shipping service that works with eBay).

It does not give you a discount on LetterPost/LightPacket services.

And might I mention that you can buy discount mint postage stamps here on eBay, at reallynice discounts.

2.) Tracking is fraught.

No you don't need it, but it is a Seller Protection. Do NOT ever allow a customer to tell you they want you to ship untracked. You will not see your item or your money again.

But I ship most of my items without tracking, including internationally.

To ship with tracking can move a CD or paperback from a $1.20 postage cost to $15.

So you have to balance your costs (procurement, fees, postage, packaging) against your chances of fraud.

And that depends on your category.

I sell books, sewing patterns, stamps, postcards and emphemera.

A demographic that reads and enjoys following instructions. Losses are minimal.

A seller of coins, sportscards, dolls, horsetack, or jewelry would have a different customer base.
