Snails.

Did you know eBay has a specific policy on the sale of snails?

Considering the many questions with very vague answers (like how to provide a Return Shipping Label to an international customer) I  wonder what led to this precise policy being put in place.

Snails.

US Department Of Agriculture rules. Policies put in place to try to prevent invasive species (Think Zebra Mussels, Asian Carp, Purple Loosestrife, Giant Hogweed etc.)

Read more about invasive species of snails here:

It's a VERY serious problem.

Snails.

A vegan hipster techie eBay policy analyst who is also a card-carrying PETA member?  Possibly the same person who paid  $2000 for an old ripped pair of jeans (see mjwl2006's post on "Inside the lucrative top-secret world of rare vintage fashion").  Who cares about other people's challenges with returns (or changing listings to Canuck Dollars, or other practical matters) when you can save a snail AND be a great hipster fashionista?  It's all in a day's work.

Snails.

I live on Vancouver Island.

The local slugs can be ridden by small children.

Bonus: the slugs move slowly so the kids don't need helments.

Snails reproduce and spread like wildfire and if a species gets in a water tract where it has no natural predators they can very quickly destroy an entire ecosystem.  They look like harmless little squishy things but they can permanently ruin a foreign environment because it is nearly impossible to get them out, every last one.  If they aren't completely eradicated they'll just start again.
