Summer update

Check your spam folder.  The update arrived.  Straight to the spam folder.  If this is so important, maybe it should have been sent to the "messages" in "my ebay".  So much junk mail every day, I barely look at it.

Summer update

Hi @pinetreecottage,

There are a lot of laws in Canada that surround email activities. We have to be very mindful of this when sending messages and emails to our members.

I'm sorry you missed this email. Please add the email address you received it from to your safe senders list, and you won't have a problem next time. We don't typically send the Seller Update notice as an eBay Message, as that could be a nuisance for some members.

Summer update

I received the Canadian-version Seller Hub webinar message as an ebay Message; surely the Summer Update is as or more important than that one. In the past, announcements about the Seller Updates have in fact gone to ebay Messages. Regardless, my message was received, and I had been watching for it.

Got it thank you very much.

A lot of it is common sense or adjusting to industry standards. Of course industry standards in Canada are different than the US when it comes to shipping, simply due to the cost. Too bad ebay does not understand that issue.

Using a catalog to sell items is fine in theory, unfortunately there are too many variables or kinks that need to be worked out before it's implemented.

Only three store levels for Canada, I was hoping to see the starter store here for a chance to grow into a basic store. Maybe if it becomes popular in the US, we might get it here.

I always think back to how the movie studios learned when VCR's were first introduced. The movies on Beta or VHS were $89.99 or more each, until Paramount decided to release Raiders of The Lost Ark for $29.99. They sold more than 10x as many than before, making a fortune in the process. The rest as they say, was history.

Wake up ebay, would you rather have 1 million sellers paying $20 a month or 10 million sellers paying $5 a month. How many folks would have signed up for Netflix if it cost over $20?

End of rant, thanks for listening, good luck to all Canadian sellers.

Not a problem for me....I don't use any type of Spam filters. If legit messages are going to your spam folder then you probably have your settings set too stringent.

My point is, it should have gone to  "messages" in "my ebay" and not directly to my email.   The Mod here gave a sort of explanation why in the previous post.

And I’m certain other Seller Updates have, in fact, gone to My Mesages in eBay but maybe some part of the legislation changed recently. Or the interpretation of it.

Although eBay communications to us via eBay Messages seems to me like an area exempt from outside legislative powers. But I have problems with timely receipt of eBay Messages so maybe mine will come next week.

I've received previous update notices in ebay messages as well but any message from ebay seems to be hit and miss in the last couple of years. If I do get one, I usually get it a couple of days after the message date.   But in this case I've only seen the summer update notice in email.

yes also got the email message Sunday in eBay messages, glanced through it and then sent it to the trash ...deleted it... That seller update has no impact on me or anything I will be doing on eBay now or in the future...I will never have a store on eBay and the occasional sales I get on eBay are in categories that work for me as is and nothing needs to be changed from what I already do and I will remain unaffected by any of those "updates"....  Many of my listings are already gone to other venues as I slowly fade off into the sunset and in time, for me,  eBay will be nothing but a distant memory...

The issue with all of these this Update Announcements is digesting/fully understanding them and trying to figure out what is applicable to the average Canadian eBay seller.  When there are constant updates between the 2 sites (com & ca) some apply and some don't. And the other case, were implemented on dot com but are not yet implemented on dot ca and may or may not be eventually down the road. Ask a CS and they are not aware of things on dot CA. When you ask for an explanation from a moderator quite often you will get "I am not a lawyer". Neither are the vast majority of average sellers. As a seller we are expected to know ALL the rules ALL the time and if we make an honest mistake we are held accountable for it. It's very easy to miss something accidentally. Warnings, Strikes, Increased Fees, Frozen Funds and the list goes on. All I am trying to say is it's very difficult to stay caught up when the rules keep changing. And I wonder why my coffee intake seems to be increasing corresponding to my level of stress!!!

PS. And it doesn't help when you never know if or when you will receive an update announcement because your mail did not arrive. With information of actual importance.
