Insurance:
Canada Post parcels can have up to $5000 of insurance added for Canadian destinations.
For USA and International: Tracked packet is $100, parcels up to $1000.
Depending on the item's value a 3rd party insurance company may be better/cheaper coverage. When label is bought via Shippo, they use a 3rd party insurance company instead of buying additional insurance from Canada Post. Not sure if PayPal allows you to buy additional insurance.
Customs clearance:
Priority Worldwide uses commercial clearance, other parcel services are cleared through customs via the postal system. I believe that Canada Post currently uses FedEx for Priority Worldwide delivery.

Expedited comes with tracking & insurance coverage of $100.00 included. If you need more coverage you can buy it for a couple of dollars more.

Tracked Packet (must be 1kg or less) also has insurance up to $100 but if you want to insure it for more, you need to buy that with a 3rd party insurance company. I haven’t used expedited USA in a long time but I think that est. delivery time of expedited is a day faster.

Thank you very much, that is exactly what I needed to know. The item could be around $600, and I will only ship to US and Canada, so expedited is the obvious choice. I appreciate the help and replies.
