US airmail prices

On another board in another place, a US seller asks:

International Shipping costs...
So I've been out of the country since the postage rates increased. Does it really cost $22.50 to send a 10 oz t-shirt First Class to Germany?

That is $22.50 US, no tracking, no nothing. That is the cheapest airmail for a 300 gram parcel.

My cost from Canada, to Germany, is about $13.75 US for the same service.

It's $22.50 with first class international which has delivery confirmation if they print their label online.

They may get a discount on that price through ebay.

If they can meet the size restrictions etc for the large envelope category,  the cost would be around $11 - no delivery confirmation.

Yes it does cost that much if sent as a parcel. With the 2016 rate increase first class international weight classes consolidated from around 17 down to 4. Depending on the weight class of the item the rate hike was quite high, especially for items sub 16 ounces. It would not surprise me if other UPU members did the same as the US is often the first to pilot new changes.

Also as the previous poster indicated, delivery confirmation is standard to those countries with e-delcon eligibility. The equivalent Canadian service would be tracked packet. For international locations not eligible for e-delcon, small/light packet represent a competitive advantage in cost, but you are still shafted by the lack of acceptance scans and thus face the issue of late shipments, whereas the US seller wouldn't need to worry about that so long as they shipped in stated handling times. A dilemma for me as I can ship USPS or Canada Post.
