eBay wrongly displaying Free Shipping...........

I received a message today from a buyer asking about the shipping for #121023844615.

She is located in the U.S.  She said that the shipping was displayed as "free" at the top of the listing but when she checked the Shipping and Payment at the bottom of the listing it showed the (correct) shipping fee.

I asked if she happened to be using a phone to view the listing and explained that there has been a glitch with phone apps where it displays free shipping when it should not.  She replied that she used her desktop pc and not a phone.  Also she said she has seen this issue in the past and always checks with the seller if there is a discrepancy in the listing.  I wish all buyers would do so!

I received a neg a year ago for this reason although I didn't realize what had happened until it was too late to have it removed.  Even then I could not prove that this was the reason because the buyer would not respond to my questions.

If eBay does not fix this glitch it could be a major problem for sellers affecting their ratings, fees, placement in search and sales.

eBay gets 1's across the board for this one.

Maybe she was viewing on eBay.ca where it is free (within Canada) and saw FREE SHIPPING only.

eBay wrongly displaying Free Shipping...........

Once a US buyer identifies a US ZIP code, the front page on eBay.com shows the shipping charge correctly.

It only shows free shipping if the viewer is identified with a Canadian address.

eBay wrongly displaying Free Shipping...........

I started to have this problem when I started listing items with my iPhone, at the end of 2011. After dozens of calls to eBay, I finally called Apple. they do not support calculated shipping quotes from Canada. They support very few things from Canada, as I've discovered. I changed all of my listings to Flat Rates or Free shipping. If you use Calculated shipping when using an Apple Mobile Device, you will always have this issue.

I don't know anything about listing auctions on any of the Android devices. Perhaps Calculated shipping may be used with those devices.

Hope this helps.

I don't have an iPhone and don't know how to use one.  🙂  All of my listings are done on my computer and I use flat rate shipping only.

From what I have read on other boards and on eCommercebytes the glitch seemed to happen mainly when 'buyers' looked at a listing using an iPhone.  This buyer was on a desktop computer so the glitch is not restricted to iPhone users.

Thanks for the comments everyone.  I would be happy to hear from others who may have experienced this problem.

I just had this happen as a buyer (not on a mobile device).  $5 item that states free shipping on the search results, in the ad, on my bidding and summary.... but in My eBay states $39.99 shipping!  Now I'm wondering what to do as I never agreed to that much shipping.  Item number:310671649526.

I looked at your item as well and it seems to state free shipping (but I'm in Canada)

When you go to pay does the invoice ask for $39.99 shipping? If so, you'll have to send the seller a message  to ask them to change the invoice to free shipping since that is what it says in the listing. If they won't cancel, ask to cancel the sale.

Odd...it looks like the seller has free shipping for most of the countries listed but for the US the shipping charge is $39.99.

I don't know squat about iphone purchases.  In my listings' discription I state "You are buying from Canada".  I also state "FREE S&H within Canada".   The S&H charge to other countries are listed under Shipping and Payment.  I have had buyers contact me from countries other than USA for S&H quotes.  Buyers have contacted me via iphone to my computer, but fortunatley I've never had a problem come forward as to an invoice.

eBay wrongly displaying Free Shipping...........

I ran into the reverse of this a few months back. I do not remember what I was looking for. I found it on dot com. Opened a separate window, dot ca, advanced, entered my search words, selected free shipping, available to Canada. Up come some listings from the USA.

I didn't believe the free shipping even though I had selected everything correctly. Go into an appealing listing and sure enough, shipping charge.

I was doing something wrong, don't remember what it was, you guys corrected me. I was doing the same search, over and over, from Canada, in Canada, to Canada, on Canada, and I was getting incorrect results.
