For years a large part of our business model has relied on shipping items such as DVDs, certain video games, comic books, CDs and other items that are eligible for Lettermail within Canada. Said items would be shipped using Tracked Packet to the USA or Internationally.
The Lettermail method of shipping within Canada is extremely cost effective to the extent that many items are only competitive when shipped via Lettermail.
Since eIS uses the domestic shipping on file when an international buyer places an order, we now have a problem. The eIS program requires that we use a trackable method. Lettermail is non-trackable. More than a third of our items only offer Lettermail as the domestic option.
We were enrolled in the eIS program on October 9 and made our first sale this morning (a Blu-ray). Unfortunately, the item in question offers Lettermail as the domestic shipping option. We charged $6 for Lettermail in this case. All of the tracked shipping methods available to us generally cost $18 or more for an item of this size.
We aren't willing to eat that cost, so we decided to cancel the transaction. This is not something we want to do because if we start cancelling transactions over and over it could lead to an account suspension.
We decided to check the eBay Shipping Label prices for the item before cancelling the transaction and were met with a potentially good surprise.
Shipping the Blu-ray from Halifax to the Mississauga hub via eIS is only $8 for Canada Post Expedited Parcel with eBay Shipping Labels for the item in question (in this case a parcel weighing 200 g in a 22 cm x 16 cm x 12 cm box). Knowing this, we are going to eat the $2 and give this a shot.
We checked to see what it would cost to ship a record using a record mailer (600 g in a 33 cm x 33 cm x 4 cm box) and the Canada Post Expedited Parcel price came up as $9.
The UPS prices were also less than expected, but were several dollars more than the Canada Post options in the tests we did.
If this is accurate, then it suggests that eBay and Canada Post (as well as UPS) have made deals on cheaper shipping to the hub and haven't made an announcement as of yet.
We realize that we are among the earliest invitees to the program. Has anyone else had a sale via eIS yet? If so, what is your experience in terms of shipping prices to the hub using eBay Shipping Labels?

I just remembered where I read information on this question. This link states:
"When shipping your item to the domestic shipping hub, always add tracking details and include the reference number on the label to ensure it arrives safely. This is done automatically for you if you create the shipping label on eBay. The domestic shipping hubs are in multiple locations so you may see different addresses on your labels."
It doesn't explicitly say it's mandatory, though.

Yeah, the phrasing of that strikes me as being along the lines of "smoke 'em if you got 'em" rather than "ya gotta get 'em and smoke 'em."

The unique code is what's used to tie the package to a specific eIS transaction as far as I'm aware.
Thanks for taking the risk and sending a few items untracked as tests - please report back! I would be curious to know if there are any updates on the order details once it's received by eIS and shipped off to the buyer (for both tracked and untracked shipments to the hub).
Anyone mailing things untracked is already well aware of the risks associated with it. I don't understand why the risk is any different mailing to the hub. You would think it would actually be less risky because there's no risk of scammers lying and saying they never got it when they actually did.
Unless the people at eBay Canada are completely clueless regarding how Canadian eBay sellers operate, they must have planned for the fact that people would be mailing things into the hub untracked. They've clearly made no attempts to force tracked shipping to the hub.

Unfortunately, there is just a closed door and no access for deliveries to the Mississauga Hub. CP are leaving p/u cards to p/u at the nearest PO (are †hey actually picking these up?) My carrier has tried every day for 3 days (Chit Chats) with no one available and posted a pic of this closed door each time. The phone number given is eBay's phone number with an AI bot that no one can get past. There is NO phone number for the hub. So what now?

Wow... that's bad....
eBay isn't suppose to accept any carriers? If there's no one or no way to receive the packages ......

I too will test sending with no tracking. If it is not OK I will withdraw from EIS.
Here is a real example of why from a sale yesterday. I have a low priced item sold for $18.00 showing $3.00 to ship to Canada via letter mail.
Actual postage is $2.61 plus tax or $2.95. But I have thousands of dollars in postage that I purchased for half face so my cost is about $1.50 to ship in Canada, Cost by Canada Post with label purchased on eBay is $8.45.
Were I to set shipping to Canada high enough to cover that all sales would be gone. Better to opt out of EIS.

Hello, I had an order that is going to Lithuania and here is the tracking I'm seeing now-doesn't seem to have been a problem delivering the package but it was literally right after the program started that I got this sale. I don't ship to Lithuania so it was nice to see it actually work and it's in Germany now so should be in her country shortly. I would like to know if we can use this program to ship all the US items because it's a lot easier than the hoops we have to jump through for Chit Chat Express.

LOL. .. I also have thousands of dollars in stamps that I only use on Canadian lettermail and some international ones

Yes, you can use it to ship to the US. The question is what the total shipping cost will be compared to chitchats or Canada post and if it makes your items competitive for US buyers.
Edited to add that Chitchats just announced a new US delivery option that does not require Manugacturer information.

Oh so this proves that you do get delivery/tracking updates on the "eIS --> buyer" leg of the journey. Good to know. Will be interesting to see if those updates populate on a non-tracked order.

Unless the people at eBay Canada are completely clueless regarding how Canadian eBay sellers operate, they must have planned
As the Americans say: "Bless your heart..."
We can use postage stamps to pay for Canada Post labels.
It's a pain in the butt, because it has to be done at the counter and the clerk is slooooowwwwly entering the information manually.
But it is possible.

I just had both knees replaced so going to the counter in Dartmouth is problematic since they closed a few of the post offices and the one nearest me has to cover all the others so there's always a long line. I keep forgetting that I can do stamps with tracking....might have to look for another post office...LOL

I looked at Google Maps.
The address is quite a big building, and there are loading docks at the back, front and one side.
I couldn't find Street View to see where doors might be.

well currently I am still seeing Due to changes in US customs regulations, all Canada Post services to the US and Puerto Rico are temporarily disabled.
so it's not giving me an option to send to the hub. It does say in the info page that the buyer can chose whether to have it go to the hub or not....I'm interested in knowing how they determine which....? do they see a different price for shipping? In my other listing she was in a country I don't ship to so I'm guessing the hub was the only choice for her.
This item I'm trying to ship with Chit Chats is STILL showing manufacturer required so I guess they haven't updated their program yet

If you are sending to the hub, you would be using a Canada Post domestic service, not a USA one.

I was in Iceland having a discussion with a lady from the UK and a guy from the US. He said "bless your heart" is an insult and would be continued with an insulting statement. The lady from the UK said it's something you say when someone does something nice and sweet.
Kinda funny how we all speak the same language and don't understand what is being said.

I don't think we can just send anything to their address, it has to be generated during the sale-the item I'm trying to ship now is not giving me the option for the hub

I took a quick look at some of your listings from a US perspective. Not all of them have eIS as a shipping option. This one you're having trouble with may be one of them.
10-18-2025 10:36 PM
We just got charged $12.63 for the shipping label to the eIS hub that was quoted as being only $8.00 when we purchased the label. Dimensions are accurate.
If we aren't receiving accurate shipping rate quotes when purchasing shipping labels to the hub this entire program is dead on arrival.
We are very **bleep** off right now. As a result of this we net less than $3 profit on this item. This is a disaster.
