This not a bug. Up until recently even Canada Post did not have letterpost as part of their online cost calculator, just as a straight rate chart.  You can not print shipping online for letterpost.

 ...

You are willing to put in the dimensions for the item for calculated cost, but can't be bothered to put in a flat rate cost?  It's not as if there are many choices when using oversize lettermail/letterpost.

Here's all the rates you need. If you want to future proof your listings you can start using the 2019 proposed stamp rates.

Stamp rates for Canada for 2018 and 2019 (proposed):
Max of 5mm thick
001-030g ..  0.85 ..  0.90
031-050g ..  1.20 ..  1.27
Max of 2cm thick
001-100g ..  1.80 ..  1.90
101-200g ..  2.95 ..  3.12
201-300g ..  4.10 ..  4.34
301-400g ..  4.70 ..  4.98
401-500g ..  5.05 ..  5.35

Stamp rates to USA for 2018 and 2019 (proposed):
Max of 5mm thick
001-030g ..  1.20 ..  1.27
031-050g ..  1.80 ..  1.90
Max of 2cm thick
001-100g ..  2.95 ..  3.12
101-200g ..  5.15 ..  5.45
201-500g .. 10.30 .. 10.90
Small Packet USA is less expensive for 201-250g ($8.78 at the counter) and similar for over 250g.

International stamp rates for 2018 and 2019 (proposed):
Max of 5mm thick
001-030g ..  2.50 ..  2.65
031-050g ..  3.60 ..  3.80
Max of 2 cm thick
001-100g ..  5.90 ..  6.25
101-200g .. 10.30 .. 10.90
201-500g .. 20.60 .. 21.80
Over 200g you might as well use Small Packet for International.

Calculated Shipping: no option for Lettermail!

Clculated Shipping is used for services that vary according to distance.

You can send a LetterMail item under 30 grams anywhere in Canada for 85 cents. No calculation is needed.

In any case, you cannot buy LetterMail service online. Nor can LetterPost (international letters) be tracked.

This will give you the letter rates for anywhere in the world. You only need the country , dimensions and weight.

Letter rates only go up to 500 grams and 2cm thick.

https://www.canadapost.ca/cpotools/apps/far/business/findARate?execution=e1s1

There is no Light Packet option any more.

So if you are willing to forgo tracking and your shipment is small enough, use Flat Rate, weigh your shipment and put the rate in the box.

If you need tracking, the cheapest international rates are usually Tracked Packet.

The cheapest domestic rate is Expedited.

Do you already have your Small Business Solutions card? You will need it to get discounts from the various shippers (SnapShip/Canada Post, Paypal , Shippo) and also at the PO counter.

You can also buy discount mint postage here on eBay *cough*

Calculated Shipping: no option for Lettermail!

To setup shipping for light printed material items shipping via Canada Post Lettermail select "flat: same cost to all buyers" in all three regions ... Domestic, International (USA) and International (Worldwide).

To setup the shipping calculator to combine multiple items and apply a shipping discount it is necessary to go to "site preferences" and create a discount shipping rule or rules. This is easy to setup when using flat rate shipping.

Notice the "Apply my flat shipping rule" box is checked for each region.

Domestic (Canada) - Lettermail @ 1.95 and International (USA) only @ 2.95International (Worldwide) the rest of the world @ 3.95

Combined shipping discount rule setup screen in Site Preferences.

Also remember letter mail is designed to be used for letter mail....printed matter. Very limited exceptions. If it's not really printed matter or not included in the approved list, you're doing so at your own risk. Anything with a value for customs should be declared(requires a customs declaration) as such and must also meet the size requirements of Canadapost. If it doesn't meet this criteria it is now considered a package.  Sizes and what qualifies as a letter below.

Note that when using flat rate there is no need to input the dimensions or weight of lettermail. Just learn the max and minimum dimensions and size envelopes accordingly. The flat rate combined shipping calculator does not add weights. One needs to learn the weight of the items being sold of course but I find no need to enter that data in the form.

Simply setup your templates accordingly:

1 template for regular lettermail under 30g

1 template for regular lettermail 30 - 50g

1 template for oversize lettermail 50 -100g

1 template for oversize lettermail 100 - 200 g

and another for Canada up to 500g (seldom used)

over 200g to USA and International use Small Packet Air

Alternatively, one template can be used for all weights and sizes if you are prepared to remember to edit the pricing. I don't operate well with editing shipping costs, too easy to make errors by forgetting to edit the price. Templates are pretty much foolproof in that regard.
