When I log onto ebay https address is fine but as soon as click on an item the https address turns red and it is displayed as a non-secure site. Consequently I don't want to purchase if not secure. Any suggestions why this is happening with ebay? thanks

You might consider installing the HTTPS Everywhere browser extension.
HTTPS Everywhere is an extension which automatically switches sites from insecure "http" to secure "https".
Some sites have limited support for encryption over HTTPS, and may default to unencrypted HTTP.
HTTPS Everywhere rewrites requests to these sites to HTTPS.

Obviously, some sellers are still not https compliant.
With the reasonable advance notice, I'm surprised compliance hasn't been enforced.
It is your prerogative to disregard those listings of concern.
I think you'll find the majority https secure.
