Well, let's see.

Your customer's cleared payments will be held for 21 days against your good performance as a seller.

Your fees will be lower overall, but you will be paying fees on shipping as well as sales.

Free Shipping is very big-- but it really means including the shipping cost in the asking price.

The Canadian dollar is back down to 85 cents USD, so you can once again make money on the exchange.

It would be a good idea to read the announcements on ebay.ca and on .com as some major changes will have been announced there. Pay attention to the fall and spring updates...they will have links to all of the updates in the announcements.

When I was selling a decade ago, it wasn't a requirement to take PayPal. That's changed now, right?

Technically, there is no absolute requirement to accept PayPal.  However, a seller must offer online payment.  It could be through a seller's own credit card merchant account or another third party.

The policy states:

For most categories, you need to offer at least one electronic payment or Internet merchant credit card option. This provides a fast and secure transaction for you and the buyer. When a buyer clicks the Pay Now button in My eBay, the listing, or email notification, they pay you immediately and the payment is processed through the option you've chosen. You receive an email telling you you've been paid and you can ship the item.

You can also offer payment upon pickup. Payment by personal cheque, cashier's cheque, bank-to-bank transfers, or money order isn't allowed for most eBay purchases.

Now, let's be realistic.  Regardless how sellers feel about PayPal, the purpose of listing on eBay is to make a sale and buyers prefer to use PayPal for its perceived security. Sellers not offering PayPal hurt themselves.

Also, for most sellers, PayPal remains the cheapest alternative for online transactions.

Thanks for the summary. Is Bitcoin banned on eBay, or is anyone using it? It's obviously great for sellers (both legit, and not legit ones).

What percentage of sellers are now infrequent sellers who only list a few items a year?

Bitcoin is NOT an approved method of payment on eBay.

Nobody really knows but, if you take a look at a selection of items (any category)  and check the sellers feedback rating, you will notice that most listings are offered by experienced sellers

Shipping costs both ways and about a 1000 other things we have no control over.

Oh! You need to read up on the new defect policy. Just a few negs and neutrals will get you banned for life. Very important.

They're using this horrible policy to ban good long term sellers for no good reason. Except of course, the chinese.

That's not totally correct. If an item is being returned because it is not as described then yes, the seller pays return shipping.  If the buyer returns it because of buyers remorse, the seller is responsible for return shipping.
