I have been off this site for 9 days. My computer had to be updated to Windows 10. When my husband returned with it, I couldn't open the emails. The tech guy said that my Windows Live mail was obsolete and the hard drive needed replacing, so my husband took it back again.
When he brought it back a couple of days ago, I had lost all my saved emails and bookmarks, so he took it back again. He just returned yet again with it, frustrated with three 3 hour trips.
A lot of things to learn. My bookmarks are back, but I can't find a way to get them to stay in the left hand column, they just keep disappearing and I have to click on them each time. I used to be able to get them to stay in the column but now I can't find a way to do it. Any help would be very much appreciated.

Your photos are fine and should show up on eBay without issue. The "blue mountain" is just the default icon for a photo. You likely need to go into the folder view settings and uncheck "always show icons, never thumbnails" to see the actual photos.

This is why I have only had Macs.
((hugs))
It will get better.

I sure hope so, now all my windows files and pictures are locked.

recently gave up my Windows 7 computer for a computer with Windows 10 and because all files, pictures, everything had been backed up from the old computer, and then installed on the computer with Windows 10, the transition has been relatively easy and onward we have gone into this world of Windows 10. It did take a few days getting used to everything with Windows 10, its pros and cons, but everything seems to be running smoothly for me.

I went from Windows 7 to 10 a couple of years ago but have never had or wanted bookmarks to stay on the left side so I'm not sure how to do that. I find that the bookmarks toolbar is the best place to keep the bookmarks that I use all the time. If you keep the bookmark description short you can have at least 15 pages bookmarked there.

since I didn't set up this computer, have no idea on the "how-to's" but I do have accessibility to bookmarks on both left and right side as I have 2 toolbars set up ...
The bulk of my bookmarks are kept up in the left side same as I had with Windows 7.

I DID IT !! I don't even know how.
Bad news is, all my pictures and descriptions are blocked, there is a possibility that that it is hacked to get money to take off the blocks, so it's another 3 hour trip for my husband tomorrow to take it back to the shop. It feels like this will never end.

What do you mean by "blocked"?

Do PCs allow access to "the cloud"?
When I do a Search on my Macs, one of the choices is Cloud. Others are Desktop and Applications which I think came preloaded and folders I made for Documents and Personal.
Try opening Search as generally as you can, (oh gosh, such technical jargon eh?) and see what your computer thinks it has available.
Then pick something you are pretty sure you know what you called it (I have a couple of draft novels that seem to wander around constantly) and use that as your Search term.
Sorry to be so vague. I haven't used a PC since I retired over five years ago, and those machines were pretty old too. The federal government is cheap about updating machines that work just fine.

depending on the software installed, antivirus programs & such, some materials, pictures, etc may seem "blocked" because you have not given the computer applications permission to access them...

I will check and see how I give permission. I have been working on this for hours, and the files that seem blocked and won't open, I have found in other places, so all my documents now open, PHEW!
The pictures are coming up, but some previews are not showing the picture, something that looks like a blue mountain, not sure why, if I click on it the picture comes up on Windows, but I am wondering if they will show
on eBay.
I am getting too old for this, at least this should now last for as long as i will need it.

I've been postponing getting a new computer with Windows 10, but now that support for Windows 7 has ended, I have no choice.
I hate the thought of getting everything set up the way I want ... I can feel your frustration. Good luck to you. I'll be returning to this topic for any information I can glean.

Thanks, computer is back and seems to be working okay. Lots of work to do editing sites. I don't have good vision and there are a lot of TINY fonts, easy to enlarge on the body of the page, but things like sidebars, menus. toolbars etc I just can't find a way.
Lost quite a bit of data, but I hope nothing too important.
I haven't been able to list anything for a couple of weeks, but I want to get the computer all set up. One big positive is that it is very fast.

Good to hear of the progress with Windows 10...
I had great family support and DH to help me along with the transition from Windows 7 to Windows 10 so I've been through all the frustrations of making the adjustment which actually only took a few days and I was rolling along...
Yes those original tiny fonts!... BUT you can go into your computer settings and change size of font ...I got that taken care of in very short order!!!

I have done some of the fonts, but in trying again this morning I managed to lose about about 20 of my email, now I have not idea how to get them back.

I doubt you've lost any emails, it's much more likely you are just not looking in the correct folder. Whenever you "lose" one set the filter to "all mail", upon finding the "lost" mail note the folder in which it is filed, if necessary move to a different folder.
Important note; If you are using either the Windows Mail app or outlook.com directly there is now a feature called "Focused Inbox" which if enabled separates incoming mail into 2 separate folders. This feauture often mis-behaves making important email difficult to locate. Gmail also has this feauture.
I highly recommend disabling "Focused Inboxes" wherever they're found including the gmail version. A unified inbox is foolproof, if I am receiving unwanted mail I hit the unsubscribe link, if that isn't an option I create a rule to delete them immediately or direct them to my folder of choice.

Thank you for that information. One of my Outlook accounts started doing that and I thought it was me, because usually when something pointless happens it is me.
