Bid showing, plus Buy it Now?

Can an auction have 1 bid showing plus a Buy it Now? How does that work?

The eBay policy was revised a few years ago to allow the "Buy-it-Now" option to remain after a first bid is received in some categories:

"The Buy It Now price is available until someone bids on the item or the reserve price is met. When the Buy It Now option disappears, the auction-style listing proceeds normally. In a few categories, the Buy It Now option may continue to be available after the first bid for a limited time."
