Can a seller retract the offered item at the time of bid-expiry, under any rediculous pretext?

Item #: 380619745375

Seller: sunflowerlaptops

The seller retracted the item (a laptop) just seconds before the expiry of the bidding time. As an explanation it gave the excuse that my account has not been active for two years and, therefore, it is suspect.  This was done primarily because I was the only bidder and the item was being sold to me at $119.99, while the price offered for direct purchase of the same was $140. The offered explanation (which obviously has no substance) is rediculous, as it is not the seller's responsibility to police Ebay. How could the seller question my authenticity, when Ebay has already accepted me as a bone fida member? If Ebay does not punish this seller publicly, it would open the door to further abuse of its members and it is reasonable to question whose side Ebay is?  Thank you.

The seller did not retract the item.

The seller cancelled your bid which is perfectly legal

for them to do.
