We do not see this often, but when i have a seller with 6 times the shipping costs then others on the market, how do we file a complaint.

He puts the item a bit lower the his competition, but has a shipping cost 6 times over everyone else.

I dont think it is a good way of doing business... If a buyer makes a mistake and doesnt check shipping.. he has been had.

This is cheap!

Give us a way to file a complaint. PLZ

" how do we file a complaint."

The only way you can file a complaint is by hitting the back button and ignoring the listing and that seller.

Sellers are free to list at whatever price they want.  Buyers are free to ignore those who want too much and are not competitive.

For example, you may find seller A selling a scarce stamp for $50 and asking $2 shipping.  Then find seller B asking $48.00 for a similar stamp but $12 shipping (because he uses registered mail)

While $12 is six times $2, there is nothing wrong with seller B asking $12 shipping to cover his higher cost.

Buyers decide who they want to deal with.

I believe that some time ago buyers could report sellers when shipping costs (actually handling fees) were crazy-hi, but I think those days are over. Buyers do still rate a seller’s cost of shipping but the sting has been taken out of those ratings.

Many sellers keep shipping low or free because in some cases it can be good for business.

To penalize sellers for high shipping costs is/would be seriously hypocritical of eBay.

eBay promotes, supports, and unashamedly pushes the GSP on buyers and sellers because eBay profits from the program and it suits them. They get a kick-back from P.B. and perhaps initially also saw an increase in international sales and thus FVFs.

The GSP happens to be a very expensive shipping program with inferior service. (slow etc.).

As long as eBay promotes the GSP with the vigour they do, penalizing sellers for charging more than necessary for shipping says that it's not OK for sellers to overcharge, but if the GSP does the same thing they can do so with eBay's full blessing and support.

Buyers have been complaining loudly about the GSP for years, and no one's been listening so there's probably no point in filing your complaint either.

Where did you see GSP mentioned in the original post?  Assuming, are we?

Oh Dear, Woman Embarassed You read our post incorrectly.  Please allow us a moment to clarify.

We were trying to convey the message that complaining to eBay about high shipping costs which are not necessarily a product of the GSP would likely be pointless because eBay itself strongly supports a program (i.e. the GSP) which is notorious for high shipping costs.

We regret any confusion which our previous post may have presented to the casual reader.

Some sellers will put part of the price  of the item in the shipping cost.

Often this is based on out of date thinking.

For (exacggerated) example.

Listing an item at a penny with $100 shipping, may attract careless browsers to the low price. But it infuriates that bargain hunter when he sees what he really pays

This was on reason eBay gave for moving to

Fees on shipping prices.

Now the seller pays eBay not only 10% of the penny selling price but 10% of the $100 shipping price.

This happened a few years ago, although some sellers are only now catching on.

The takeaway?

Sellers pay fees to eBay on sales  AND on shipping.

If that seller thinks he is paying lower fees by moving his profit from the item to the shipping, he is gonna get a shock when he gets his monthly bill.

For interest's sake-- has your seller been selling long? When was his last sale?
