Well, I'm a technodolt.

So when I have a problem with my computer, I turn it off and go do something else for a while.

I figure the gnomes or imps or demons or whatever runs the machine need a cigarette break.

Or maybe an impish coffee.

When I come back and rev the computer up again, the gnomes are all caffeinated and ready to work.

You could also copy the transaction number, the seller's email address and the full amount of the payment required, go to your Paypal account and send money directly to your seller.

Site crashes were widely reported last night.

Well, by now someone should have done a run to Starbucks for mocchachinos all round.

Get the site up and the imps happy.

The plot thickens.

"eBay spokesperson Ryan Moore confirmed on Friday evening that a power outage at one of its data centers impacted its marketplace on Thursday. At this time, neither he nor a spokesperson we reached for PayPal would address the fact that both companies experienced a data-center power outage at the same time....."

From what I have read on the internet, ebay has state of the art data centers and power sources that shouldn't fail. LOL.

For example here are some articles on their new datacenter from 2011 to today:

https://www.ebayinc.com/stories/news/ebay-inc-wins-brill-award-data-center-design/

http://www.datacenterdynamics.com/news/ebays-utah-data-center-offers-a-glimpse-into-the-future/83495...

http://www.datacenterknowledge.com/archives/2013/09/26/ebay-goes-live-with-its-bloom-powered-data-ce...

This article is particularly interesting as it states that eBay no longer uses diesel powered backup generators or UPS.

Of course the above articles talk about the new design is supposed to prevent power outages but there may be flaws in the design that only became apparent today 2+years after the design. The "perfect storm" of a chain of events might have happened to make the system fail.

Speculation on my part. But I thought I would share the information on the very advanced design of eBay data centers in the USA at least. And since PayPal was part of eBay from 2011 to 2015 (new data center design and implementation period), they must share the same data center design.

Nah, it was my fault: I turned on the coffee pot while I was making toast and it blew the grid for the Eastern Seaboard.
