How do you report a "sniper" bidder?

You know, the ones that hide in the bushes until 1 sec before ending so that you don't have a chance to increase your maximum bid.

You can't stop it, unless you buy it now. But if all they have is an auction then it is whoever bids the last.

There's nothing to report. The highest bidder wins.

If you bid your true maximum (the maximum amount you're willing to pay) and it's higher than the sniper's maximum bid, you'd win.

Why would you want to?

Sniping is perfectly permissible on ebay, - and once you get the hang of it, it's actually

loads of fun!

You'll enjoy auctions a lot more if you have a look at the following page about bidding:

http://pages.ebay.ca/help/buy/outbid.html#avoiding

There's an assortment of related links you can click on, - about bid increments (right side),

All about bidding (left side), etc.

Ebay auctions are not like real-life auctions, so you will get far more enjoyment out of them

if you familiarize yourself with how they work.

And of course, you will want to enter your max bid as late as possible in the auction.

Factor in shipping costs (and possible import charges), then decide what is the absolute most

you can comfortably pay, - and not a cent more, -- that's your max bid.

That way, if you win, you get it at a fair price, and if you lose, - it's a bit of a relief, really.

Happy bidding!  Smiley Happy

What would that accomplish?

You had  7 days to decide what you wanted to bid.

Admit  that you were trying to get a bargain and lost.   Life goes on !

"hide in the bushes"

???

You have been registered on eBay for four years.  One would think you know better than that!

While most buyers now prefer to buy at fixed price (Buy-it-Now), millions still enjoy the thrill of bidding at auction although, as a percentage,  fewer sellers offer that option. Some of those bidders do not "hide in the bushes" but use a sniping program that will place their bids with less than ten seconds to go in the listing.

Many such programs are widely available.  Search engines will provide you a list if you are interested.

However, at the end of the day it does not matter if you place your bids early or late, personally or using a sniping program: the highest bidder gets the lot, regardless when the bid was placed.

I completely agree with your loads of fun answer regarding sniping for the win in a auction... I used to get infuriated when I would be the highest bidder for most of the auction length then get snipped out, I still get disappointed but not mad because if you get the hand of bidding and manage to successfully snipe a few auctions yourself.... WOW, WHAT A HEART THUMPING ADRENALINE RUSH IT IS!
