How long should this take?

Paypal question.

I have a buyer in Virginia who paid via echeque on July 9th.
I went to check status this morning, as it usually only takes 4-5 days to get clearance confirmation and I'm still waiting. Here's how the transaction now reads:

Date: Jul. 9, 2004
Time: 07:55:41 PDT
Status: Uncleared (Expected Clearing Date: Jul. 27, 2004)

July 27th???

Anyone have any idea why this would be?

I had a similar thing happen once. It finally cleard on the final day.

Sometimes it depends on the bank used by the customer.

A local Savings and Loans bank may take longer for an e-check to clear than one of the National banks suchs as CitiBank ot First Union.

I suspect that PayPal has established waiting periods based on risk (with certain banks) and historical clearing times.

The US Clearing system is very primitive compared to our Canadian system.

I've had a few really long ones like that. Once, it just failed - the guy had no money in his account to pay me.
