Sellers: Incorrect PAGE VIEWS on listings?? item# 261280080999 - 782 views? Technical Glitch??

We are concerned with how eBay's PAGE VIEWS are being recorded and are subsequently keeping a close eye on the number of page views each of our items receives after we list it. Our concern is that a limited number of our listings are in the extremely high range of page view numbers. This has happened every month continually over the past year or longer. It is just now that we have started recording numbers and are able to raise this as a real concern with other fellow sellers to explore within their listings too.

We have been on the phone to a few different eBay reps and the Technical Team at eBay is currently looking into it but has relayed to us that it may take some time.  Although this concern may seem to be meticulous, it is actually an urgent matter for Sellers and something should be done in the interim to prevent speculation.

At first we assumed it may just be a random thing (such as potential buyers clicking in and out over and over again). However, after checking closer, there was a page view acceleration every so often on one of our items immediately after we would list or re-list the item. Almost instantly it would sky rocket in page views and end in an abnormal number with NO WATCHERS such as item# 261280080999 - 782 views? or item# 251333551670 -731 views? Strangely, I don't recall either of those items receiving more than 20 page views in the previous months they were listed before re-listing them again and seeing that astonishing growth.. Most of our BIN items end with between 5-80 page views on average, if after 30 days go unsold . Anything over 300 would be considered HOT at a BIN price!  However, over 700 page views? -according to one of the eBay agents I spoke to - 'UNREALISTIC especially given the fact that those items didn't sell or have any watchers'

Initially, we became aware of this problem when we would bulk re-list 20 items at a time and out of those items only ONE item would soar to over 20 page views (within minutes). The fact that it wasn't even as popular as some of the other items troubled us and out of the remaining items, some would have 1 page view already - but most would usually be at 0 page views after only a few minutes. This pattern seemed to happen over and over again with roughly 1 out of every 20-50 re-listed items displaying an abnormal growth in page views.

Lets not misunderstand the point here. More traffic directed to our listings is a positive thing and so is a high number of page views within a listing. What concerns us, is that eBay's Page View counter has been highly inaccurate for us and maybe other sellers too. How can one properly asses their own accomplishment with 'search standing popularity' properly? If it is just a glitch, how would eBay traffic reports alone be revised?  And if those numbers were not just any glitch and truly portray an accurate account of actual unique page views, it would lead us to question why some of our more popular items (with watchers) have never come close to reaching 700 plus page views after 30 days.

If anyone else is following their own listings' page views and watcher counts and notices extreme variable such as what we have seen with our page views, you may want to take a note, post or record what you see for future reference. We want everyone to win here - including eBay!

Best wishes and Happy Selling to all!

Looking at that item I only see 21 page views registered.

In fact it looks like most of your items have less than 21 with

1 exception that has 44.

That number is for the Sellathon counter visible to all buyers.

It is actually in the 'My Ebay' section visible only to the seller which helps us to see how many page views each item received how many are watching etc. It is also shown in the top of your listing under listing info. Each Representative did confirm the irregularity.

Thank you for your concern! 🙂
