Has anyone had the chance to recently check out "ebay pulse?" They list some of the most watched auctions on ebay and I got to tell you its insane what some of the things people list and the bidding war they get. Just how do they do it!!!! Who actually bids on this stuff? Currently there is a "celebrity jar" that was at the premier of Mr and Mrs. Jones and they are auctioning this glass jar with "air" inside the jar from the premier along with two t-shirts - they have pictures showcasing the jar with Angelina and Brad Pit. Its up to $1975.00. This is just one of the examples. Its crazy - i gotta think of some wacky story and list it on ebay! You know that old saying, "there's a sucker born every minute."

This stuff has been going on for years and has become something of its own industry now.

Every now and then a news article will be posted about some bizarre thing being sold on eBay, whether it's a grilled cheese sandwich with some religious icon on it, or a guy modelling his ex-wife's wedding dress or a guy selling his ex-wife's Beanie Baby collection -- these are filler pieces on news programs and so there's always tons of sellers putting up auctions with bizarre stories attached to them and them submitting the link to the media and blog sites hoping that the auction will trigger a viral marketing campaign.

The ante has been raised recently since a prominent online casino has discovered by overbidding these ridiculous auctions they can reap millions of dollars in publicity by announcing that they were the ones who won these highly publicized auctions. Suddenly there are a lot of other companies trying the same thing now.

Eventually this marketing method will become oversaturated and will eventually dry up. So if you have some bizarre thing to sell and are a master of storytelling get it up now while there's a chance you can win the viral marketing lottery!

Cheers,
Ernie.

Oh... I'll also add that a lot of these bizarre listings get their hit counters artificially inflated to try to get into this eBay Pulse, and a lot of the bids are placed by people with no intention of actually purchasing the item -- shill bidders and vandals.

people like you post links (ok "like" = they can post the actual link)

We all click through...plant enough seeds and in 24 hours you will receive millions of hits causing your servers to crap out or give you a hefty bill for bandwidth overages! (best to hide the stuff on somebody elses server).

Oh yeah if you're really stupid you might make the morning network shows and go on to star in lame reality show on some obscure cable channel.

Yes people do like the ads they get sucked in and have more money than brains. That jars was to 20000usd i believe but ebay canceled it duty to the verifacation on the item I admit from toast to jars some got a good story. If can right good story than trust me i would hesitate at all. I suck at english so i tried but this venue many times but has worked for me. So of the bidders i asure are crocks and just trying spliting winnings with sellers.

Well... I thought I'd let you know, I have a pretty funny auction going on right now on my secondary user ID, hopefully you can spread the word for me 🙂

I got the drumsticks from the eBay Live gala after the B52's show, it's going up but I expect it to get much higher because after all, even if you don't like the band, it is a legendary eBay item, lol
