US shipping to Canada

Why is shipping from some US sellers to Canada so expensive and others not?

Thank you,

US shipping to Canada

Some sellers make a WAG at the cost of shipping outside the USA.

Some sellers use First Class International, which has Delivery Confirmation.

Some sellers use Global Priority which has Delivery Confirmation because they don't know about First Class International.

Some sellers use couriers like UPS,which are cheap at the seller's end , but charge the importer/buyer  duty, tax and a fat service fee on the doorstep.

Some sellers use the Global Shipping Program which charges duty, tax and a small service fee upfront.

Some sellers use Free Shipping which hides the cost of shipping in the asking price.

Some sellers use Free Domestic Shipping which hides part of the cost of shipping in the asking price.

To discover which one your seller is using, print out this answer and fasten to a soft surface such as a cork board. Throw a dart at it.

Or add the asking price plus the shipping price. If no duty or sales tax is given, and the total is over $20 Cdn, you may have to add duty and tax and a service fee to that total.

Buy Canadian.
