custom fees for fishing rods from US to Canada

new user to ebay. checked out a fly rod, then border buddy who advises custom broker fees are $150 plus tax. That would make a rod bought for 300.00 on ebay now costing with all other taxes, pst, gst, close to 500. Not such a good buy after all. Am I doing something wrong here or is there another way to do this?

Hi .. Buy a $300 rod + sellers shipping cost.

Importing.. I believe the duty rate is 6.5 % ..$19.50

Taxes. what you would pay at your sporting goods store.

Seller ships by mail..Canada Post charges a $9.95 fee for collecting the above on delivery.

If seller uses a courier service ie UPS/FEDEX ground.. an expensive brokerage fee  (approx $65.) Avoid.

That's much less than Border Buddies.
