Listing your item is free, but there is a 10% fee (Final Value Fee) on the selling price and another 10%fee on the shipping price.

In addition, there will be a fee of 2.9% from Paypal (with a minimum of 30 cents).

The FVF was noted on the Sell Your Item form before you clicked on List My Item.

If you received an invitation to Sell Something as part of a Special Offer promotion, generally, you need to Activate that promotion. 

Also, there are surcharges to use special features. Not everything is free with a listing promo like that. You need to read the fine print. Like whether it applies to ebay.ca or ebay.com. 

Also also, Final Value Fees are charged if the item sells. Those are rarely free.
