BULLION SILVER COINS 99.99% PURE ARE STILL TAXED WHEN THEY ARE EXEMPT FROM SALES TAX IN CANADA

I am very upset because I am waiting for a refund of $138.60 for 9 different items (pure silver bullion coins are EXEMPT from sales tax in Canada). Every time I contact Customer Service I get the same answer (someone will email me) and NO refund. How long will this problem go on before eBay fixes this issue? Does the press have to be involved for things to get fixed?

The phone reps work for a sub-contractor and have poor training and less authority.

You need the eBay employees who cover the social media accounts.

This has been brought up time and again, and is also happening in the USA from posts on dotCOM.

I'm not sure that it is eBay you should be applying to for your refund, they collect the money and then send it directly to the government.

The problem is that they should not be collecting it at all.

Legally, I personally think that bullion should be taxed.

Hi @reallynicestamps! I have not seen a sitewide ticket become open on this issue but ff there are any members that require expedited service for tax exemption, they can always be sent directly to the Canada inbox: CanadaGST/PST@ebay.com

Hello Devon,

This was from the original announcement. July 2022

  • We know that the Bullions category should be exempted from being taxed and we apologize for this technical error for those of you who were taxed. eBay will refund the buyer any tax over-collected and will be responsible for any tax under-collected. eBay is utilizing third party software and taxability rules to ensure the proper tax treatment of all items listed on the site.

This is there but does not address bullion.

Is there a way for tax-exempt buyers (e.g., charitable entities, resellers, etc.) to provide an exemption certificate and make purchases without paying tax?

eBay currently doesn’t support a buyer exemption system for Canada-based buyers. First Nations buyers can apply for a rebate to the CRA on exempt purchases. For provincial exemptions, buyers can go to the respective tax authority for a refund.

The help page regarding these situations may need to be updated and include the link to ebay's PST mail dept.

-Lotz
