Shipping

A customer in Quakertown, Pennsylvania purchased a lampshade from me. It fits in a 51x45x38cm box and weighs 3.45kg. Does anyone have any suggestions as the most economical way to ship this?  Would couriers be cheaper than Canada Post? Thank you for your help!

This is where using Calculated Shipping is useful when you set up a listing.

And here is a bookmark that will be useful in future,

Canada Post is almost certainly the least expensive way to ship.

US buyers don't usually have to worry about duty, their duty-free allowance in $800US, but many, as you will notice on the invoice, will be charged state tax (often not too accurately called the Internet Sales Tax).

You pay PayPal (or eventually Managed Payments) fees on the entire payment including on the shipping you charge and on that sales tax you never touch.  There have been mutterings about that.

Make sure your weight includes all the packaging. As you may already know, newspaper is heavy as is cardboard. If you can source bubblewrap or airbags and corplast, it is worth the investment of time and possibly of money.

Canada Post rates are cheap enough that most couriers sub-contract to them for isolated or even suburban deliveries.

If you are close to a chitchatexpress office (there are other similar businesses), they will for a reasonable fee, carry your shade over the border and post it through USPS which has extremely low domestic rates.  It is generally agreed that their service is worth the fee.

(They don't service Vancouver Island, but have an office in Vancouver ).

I would suggest you check out labelnship.com. They could offer you better shipping rates.

All the best.
