Unplanned trip next week, how do I set up an absence alert to notify my buyers?

Don't. It will not go well.

If you have a Store, you can go to Selling Manager Pro and put your store On Vacation.

Make the vacation longer than you expect to be away. You can re-open before the set ending.

If you don't have a Store, just close all your listings.

Don't panic.

They will go into your Unsold List for the next 90 days.

And you can re-open them at any time during that period.

(Mark the 90th day on your calendar. I didn't once and it was a pain reconstructing.)

You will pay for the On Vacation listings while they are unavailable to customers.

You will pay to reopen the closed listings.

But that's much much better than having a grumpy customer who refuses to believe that you cannot ship the thing he paid for just because you are on another continent without internet access.

You need an eBay store to do that.  It is called "vacations settings".

Without an eBay store it cannot be done and would be best to end all listings and relist upon your return.
