Is it common for a seller to ask for my phone number before transaction can be completed?

Sometimes, the seller asked me my phone number for confirmation. Some kind of verification, I think.

Fraud protection maybe. I don't like to give my number but, anyway, everybody can find it in phonebook...

Some shippers want it so they can arrange a convenient time for pickup.

It doesn't have to be your home number or even your cell. You could use your work number or your mother's.

The purpose is theoretically to make life easier for you and if you've ever had to drive out to the UPS depot at the airport during business hours, you may appreciate that.
