Another dirt underhanded trick by the Harper government

Since it would be unwise for Harper to appoint any of his "friends" to the Senate these days, what does he do?

talk about SPIN!!

the party was not even PLANNED by the government and the list was made by someone else.

but I know it's all harpers fault

Numerous draft lists of potential VIP guests included at least four former Canadian astronauts: Julie Payette, Roberta Bondar, Steve McLean and Robert Thirsk — with Mr. Garneau’s name conspicuously absent.

The roster swelled to 62 names by the time of the event, though not all invitees accepted. Cmdr. Chris Hadfield participated by video link from the International Space Station.

Names were supplied by museum officials, the Canadian Space Agency and MacDonald Dettwiler and Associates, the firm that recently refurbished the 15-metre Canadarm, which made its space debut in 1981

Two senior ministers, however, said museum and space agency staff fumbled the ball and that their own ministerial offices played no role

The museum, meanwhile, continues to shoulder the blame for the gaffe.

The reason Mr. Garneau was not invited is the result of an unfortunate and regrettable oversight,” said museum spokesperson Olivier Bouffard

Darn there is those FACTS and the TRUTH ruining your little SPIN!!!!

I also must agree with Pierre!  Leave that post open! Who cares about "canadians" living or traveling in  Jordan and irac ? Let them fend for themselves!

if they want to be Canadians I guess they should live in Canada and not all around the world. In fact maybe bring home all our ambassidors and staff stationed to help Canadians where ever they live!!

if your going to appoint anybody you do like Chretien and appoint your family!!!

No.  It was not missed. Some facts are always better ignored when they do not suit the extreme right wing partisan purpose.

I don't think in some cases it has to do with "right wing", I think it's just the individual personality in general.

no I READ the FACTS!!!!!  unlike some OTHERSS

Names were supplied by museum officials, the Canadian Space Agency and MacDonald Dettwiler and Associates, the firm that recently refurbished the 15-metre Canadarm, which made its space debut in 1981.

The Canadian Press obtained the Canadarm museum file through the Access to Information Act, though no correspondence from the ministers’ offices was included. Some key elements of the file were also censored

where did YOU seem to come up with the documents that the PRESS did not??

and again not nice for you to be calling the museum DIRECTORS LIARS!!!

As they have stated in the PRESS that it was THIER fault and NOBODY else's that  he was left off the list!

those are the FACTS--someone OTHER than the people YOU want to blame have ADMITED to be at fault!!!

so are you calling them LIARS????

The museum, meanwhile, continues to shoulder the blame for the gaffe.

“The reason Mr. Garneau was not invited is the result of an unfortunate and regrettable oversight,” said museum spokesperson Olivier Bouffard.

Another key figure in the development of the Canadarm, Ottawa resident Garry Lindberg, was also inexplicably left off the final guest list although his name appear on earlier versions.

Mr. Lindberg, who in the 1970s and early 1980s was project director at the National Research Council for Canadarm development, declined comment. In an email to him, Ms. Amyot blamed the space agency for the missing invitation.

wonder why it was not a big thing that a "key figure" in the development was left off the list??  he a conservative and not important enough for you to mention???

Should I bother? I don’t know.

Ok I’ll play along just this one time…………

In your own copy and paste….. “The Canadian Press obtained the Canadarm museum file through the Access to Information Act, though no correspondence from the ministers’ offices was included. Some key elements of the file were also censored"

.

They media know the files are there but they have been purposefully taken away and other files were censored.

where did YOU seem to come up with the documents that the PRESS did not??

But they did come up with the documents, however when asked for the Canadarm museum file they were absent.

and again not nice for you to be calling the museum DIRECTORS LIARS!!!

Not liars,....... government employee scapegoats. Never seen that happen before? Common in party politics and when people in government fear for their jobs or future. Garneau himself who is not only familiar with the agency and with the politics said the agency representative............ “took the fall”.

Two senior ministers, however, said museum and space agency staff fumbled the ball and that their own ministerial offices played no role.

But internal emails, guest lists and proposals show that the offices of James Moore, Canadian Heritage minister, and Christian Paradis, industry minister, were closely involved in the planning for more than two months.

The then-head of the museum corporation, Denise Amyot, apologized to Mr. Garneau four days after the event, calling it an “oversight” without providing details. Mr. Garneau says that “in my opinion, she took the fall.”

Marc Garneau was one of the first Canadian Astronauts and he became the first Canadian in outer space in October 1984. In 1984, he was seconded to the new Canadian Astronaut Program(CAP), one of six chosen from over 4,000 applicants. He flew on the shuttle Challenger, STS-41-G from October 5 to 13, 1984, as payload specialist. He was promoted to Captain in 1986, and left the Navy in 1989, to become deputy director of the CAP. In 1992-93, he underwent further training to become a mission specialist. He worked as CAPCOM for a number of shuttle flights and was on two further flights himself - STS-77 (May 19 to 29, 1996) and STS-97 (to the ISS, November 30 to December 11, 2000). He has logged over 677 hours in space. In February 2001, he was appointed executive vice-president of the Canadian Space Agency, and became its president on November 22, 2001.

But he was ‘’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’Accidentally’’’’’’’’’’’’’’ left off the list! LOL …….yeah right!

I should have been more precise.  Harper gave Bernier the additional responsibility for Agriculture as Minister of State

On the subject of Bernier, did you know:

Federal cabinet minister Maxime Bernier did not know his driver’s licence had been suspended when he was pulled over by police earlier this month, his office said Monday.

According to reports, Bernier was driving in Quebec on June 16 when a police officer pulled him over on an unrelated matter and pointed out that the MP’s licence was not valid.

“Mr. Bernier was unaware his driver’s license was suspended after a ticket went unpaid. Once this was brought to his attention, he immediately paid the ticket,” Bernier’s spokesperson Scott French said in an email.

Oh that Maxime Bernier!! The one with the (ahem) girlfriend who had ties to the HA and Bernier had left information about NATO meetings at her house.

She wasn't hard on the eyes at all, but love is a wonderful thing, especially when the girlfriend can ride a Harley. It can be really difficult breaking a newbe in. But I'm sure Bernier never had a problem.

Then in May 2008 Bernier promised to send a C-17 aircraft transporting several helicopters to Burma which was hit by Cyclone Nargis. However, none of the four C-17 aircraft were available at the time (he maybe should have checked the schedule first before making a promise) and the government was forced to send an aircraft rented at a cost the taxpayer $1 million for the one trip.
