Hello '...dumprat',

I highly doubt the GSP will ever be eliminated.

What you can do, however, apart from avoiding every listing which features it, is ask those sellers of the items you want if they will be willing to ship it to you USPS First Class, which is a far more affordable option and is now tracked with Canada Post.

One of the chief annoyances is Canada's unusually low import limit, - anything over $20 is subject to duties and taxes.  Some items like camera equipment have no duty, whereas clothing can be comparatively high at 18%, depending where it's made.  But nearly everything comes with tax, even if it's only GST.  So in a way this Global $hipping thing is good for the Canadian government, - all that tax revenue coming in which Canada Post was usually too overworked and underpaid to bother collecting.

Some US sellers are trying to crawl out from under the GSP, and others may adjust the listing if you ask.  But if you find some who insist they're going to stick to the GSP like chewing gum to a blanket, chances are they don't sell all that much to Canada anyway.

No, but I've heard that they will be making some changes.
