Duty (USA)

Hi,

An item that costs $ 799.99 and shipped by Canada Post to United States, is that the buyer will have to pay some duties?

Duty (USA)

Most likely.

If I remember correctly, anything over $200 USD will be charged going into the US.

Duty (USA)

Depends on where it was made.

If it is made in a country, like Canada,Mexico or Chile, which has a Free Trade Agreement with the USA, probably none or very little.

If it is actually made in China or Italy or Ethiopia, etc., then the duty would depend on the type of product as well as its origin.

In any case it is not the seller's problem, but you could add this eBay boilerplate to your listing, probably under "other shipping information' near the bottom of the first page of the Sell Your Item form.

Import duties, taxes and charges are not included in the item price or shipping charges. These charges are the buyer's responsibility.
Please check with your country's customs office to determine what these additional costs will be prior to bidding/buying.

Officially anything over US$200 require a formal customs entry.

In Practice packages sent via the mail and valued under US$2500 are very rarely stopped.

The primary reason is that there is usually nothing to collect, there is no Federal Sales tax like our GST, US Customs do not collect State or Local taxes and duty rates are usually so low that's it's not worth the effort to collect tiny amounts.

If a package between $200 and $2500 was stopped the procedure would be similar to Canada except that the amount of money would be much less.

Ship via UPS/FedEX etc. over $200 and a customs entry must be done.
