Money back guarantee ??????????

When did this eBay Money Back Guarantee on .com start.

I just noticed it - maybe it has been there for a while - it is to the right of the listing picture and at the bottom of a list.

It is really scary - when I clicked on the "learn more" link and there are three pull downs - each one puts sellers on the defensive. It looks like eBay is taking credit  for refunds, not the seller and it appears to discredit sellers.

Boy that is really bothersome - I hope it does not end up on .ca - it seriously undermines sellers.

Money back guarantee ??????????

Tell me about it. I list mainly on Ebay.com.  I didn't pay much attention to the money back guarantee build in.  I just assumed it meant that you need to refund/replace defective items.  But a fellow Ebayer pointed out to me that the default money back guarantee means you accept refunds for ANY REASON.  Buyer's Remorse.  Buyer uses your product and doesn't like it.  Etc.  The days of "a bid is a contract are over.

Money back guarantee ??????????

I'm not going to say that it won't be interpreted to the buyer's favour every time, because I'm sure it will be.  But what I read (in several places) was quite clear that only non-delivery or item not as described would be grounds for returning money.  For example...

Covered

Purchases are covered by the eBay Money Back Guarantee when all of the following are true:

  • An item isn't received or it isn't as described in the listing

  • A case is opened no later than 30 days after actual (or latest estimated) delivery date, or for tickets, 7 days after the event

  • The purchase was made with the Pay Now option or an eBay invoice

  • One of the following payment methods was used:

    • PayPal

    • ProPay

    • Skrill

    • Credit card or debit card

    • Bill Me Later

  • The item was paid for in a single payment (including payments with Bill Me Later)

Not covered

The following isn't covered by the eBay Money Back Guarantee:

  • Buyer's remorse or any reason other than not receiving an item or receiving an item that isn't as described in the listing. (See the seller's return policy for return options.)

Money back guarantee ??????????

Yes, I noticed this with shock the other day too.  I say "shock" because it is going to make request for refunds a matter of course.

I wonder what happened to the "Managed Returns" feature on eBay.com?  Is this its replacement programme, or yet another level of promotion -- to buyers, this time?

Don't misunderstand me -- I think sellers should offer refunds, but not completely unconditionally.  Even most B&M stores require the item to be returned in its original packaging to qualify for a full refund.

EBay also needs to do something about the rush of false INR or INAD claims before encouraging even more refunds.

We are dealing with this policy right now, and it's all about the buyer and takes away any tights we as sellers have. We sold some very expensive equipment to China, and the buyer is claiming the unites damaged internally where we have pictures showing it perfect and videos showing it working. After paying several, hundred dollars in feeds and giving the buyer free shipping, which cost us almost $300, the buyer is, I beluebe, s aiming us, and easy is going along with it! There. No way since the box and xterm or of the units are intact the damage could have been caused by shipping. There are capacitors bent over! Obviously he or a tech did it, and he's threatening us with the money back guarantee if we don't give him a partial refund.

ebays response when I called and talked to an escalation specialist? They would force us to take the return, arrange and pay for the return shipping, and refund him all his money ( it's 4000 U.S.!).  Are you kidding me? And the girl had the nerve to say to me have a nice day at the end?!

i am shocked, and I will fight this tooth and nail. This is an extremely unfair policy and gives the buyer all the power.

I have reported the buyer for misusing the returns and guarantee policy. And I am going to phone eBay again and demand higher managers until I get someone who will listen to me. This is 100% unjust and a terrible policy.

I think the guy above posted the policy, it only guarantee's what PayPal guarantee's... If the Item isn't as described, you get your money back.
