I buy and sell in us dollars so It has no impact on me. Last year I used most of my profits to attend eBay live so i took my money out in US dollars when I got there. When I started selling I was getting almost 1.50 for every dollar so things have really changed the market. If i did not buy my items in US dollard it would be a big problem.

Ouch!

Would be nice if the U.S. would stop focusing on war and pay a little attention to their economy.

Comments?

It's pretty dismal compared to a year ago but still better than last November.

CAN$/US$ Summary of Closing Rates
Latest closing: (12/08/2005) - $1.1969
Past 12 months
High (12/08/2004) - $1.3300
Low (26/11/2004) - $1.1759

The current fluctuations are mostly due to the rising price of oil. Bad for the US economy/Dollar, good for the Canadian economy/Dollar.

I bank with TD Canada Trust. I don't know when it happened, but their online foreign exchange transfers are now live quotes that are only good for 1 minute.

Everything else considered (low US$) the rates are very good. Current quote is about 9/10 cent different from the posted rate on xe.com

Getting worse: Paypal rate at 8am this morning (August 15th)

The current PayPal exchange rates are:
$1.00 USD = $1.16 CAD

We solved the Paypal exchange rate problem by opening a bank in the US. (Through the Royal but I am sure this service is offered by other institutioms.) Paypal now directly transfers to the US account in US dollars so there is no exhange fee. We then transfer the money to our account here - which is also a US account so again no exchange fee. And when we do pull it out in Canadian funds the bank gives us a preferred rate. Sounds complex but it is working - plus we have a VISA in US funds so we can pay Ebay with it. Again no exchange problems. And the interest rate for the account that is actually in the US is better than for our US account here.

Yes but when all your CanadaPsot shipping is in CAD and all your local bills for packaging, gas, living etc is in CAD and your getting 1.16 or even 1.18 at the bank rates to convert to pay your bills. Im going to hell, as im sure alot of us are.

Think of it this way, back in the day: $10,000 was $15,500 roughly

Now $10,000 is $11,800
Difference of $3.700 (that was our work money!)

I think its just going to get worse..

But back in "another day" US$10,000 was CA$9,500.00 roughly.

But Ben, that was pre-eBay so it hardly even counts. Heck, it was pre-most eBay sellers! Only us real old-timers remember that!!

I was in Michigan today at my bank. I changed $10.00 US to CAD & received $12.00 plus change. I came back to my bank in Canada where I only got $11.75 per $10.00. 😞 From now on I'll be changing my money at my bank in MI.
