"Brokerage C.O.D" charge. What is this?

I never saw anything about this anywhere or I wouldn't have ordered.  This $29.99 shirt now costs a total of $70!  I thought shipping and handling costs were all I needed to pay.  Will this be an extra cost on all orders being shipped from the US to Canada? I have several more items on the way.

Thanks,

Karen

Re:

Brokerage fees and taxes are the buyer's responsbility.

Any time you import items into the country they can be assessed and taxed.  If your shipment arrives with UPS, expect a large brokerage fees and taxes due.

If your shipment arrives Canada Post, taxes and a $10 flat rate handling fee may be due.

Anything valued at more than $20 can be taxed....UPS pretty much gets you every time.  Canada Post is hit and miss.

I avoid sellers who ship UPS into Canada and I always count on taxes when importing.  I'm usually happily surprised that it doesn't happen but prepared when it does.

Re:

This applies to anything imported into Canada not just eBay purchases.
