I checked it on 3 X 17" monitors here and the same thing with all of them, it blocks typed words right into your description by 4 full letters and a bit more.
Do you want to risk how many other people with 14" and 15" and 17" monitors wont see your full listings and will just go to someone else's listings?
And the further point I raised and Bill concurs, these things are one of the most annoying pop ups on the net.
If you are going to use it, at least give people the opportunity to click somewhere on it to get rid of it from blocking their ability to see your listing without distractions.
Personally, I'd opt for keeping your listing clean and easy to read and skip the java tricks, also a real pain in the butt for many of your US customers and some Canadians on dial up.
The other side of it, from a PS marketing standpoint, you have a potential customer that has gone directly to your listing because they are interested in that exact item and you are trying to get them to look at something else. not a wise thing to do.
It's not unlike someone wanting to purchase a car, very interested in one particular one, drove to the dealership because they saw the listing and the salesman is telling the person "I know you want that car, but let me show you all this other stuff I have to sell."
In retail, the most difficult part of selling is getting the person in your front door. The person that decides to look at your listing has come into your store and rather than giving them the chance to look at what brought them into your store, you are consistently throwing a sales banner in their face wherever they go on your listing telling them to look at something else.
It just doesnt make any marketing sense at all. The only way it would make sense is when the person was exiting your listing and then the little java box popped up giving them an option to see other things you have, otherwise I am one person who would immediatley click my way to someone else's listings.
