why does Ebay show 285 GBP to be $535.15 Canadian when the Bank of Canada shows it to be $459.97?

Hello fellow Ebayers...

The Bank of Canada exchange rate for March 30 2016 shows 285 GBP to be $459.15 Cdn while the approximation that Ebay gives is $535.15 Canadian dollars.   Why the huge difference of $75.18 Cdn?  Can anyone take a moment to comment?

Thanks,

Gordon

Where exactly do you see these amounts?

Hi and thank you for your reply!

The listing is for a large helio Swarovski pyramid.  The Ebay link is http://www.ebay.ca/itm/SWAROVSKI-LARGE-PYRAMID-PAPERWEIGHT-HELIO-PYRAMIDE-SWAROVSKI-GM-HELIO/3019120...

The seller is in France and has the item up for bid at 285 GBP which Ebay shows to be $535.15 Cdn.

http://www.unitconversion.org/currency/british-pounds-to-canadian-dollars-conversion.html  show this conversion to be $459.97

Thanks,

Gordon

The site you use gives you the wrong information.

Try:

https://www.google.ca/search?q=foreign+exchange&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&gws_rd=cr&ei=qO77VrXYNei1jgSCyZLoB...

Google gives Cdn$ 532.22 for £ 285

The Bank of Canada gives Cdn$ 535.34 for £ 285

http://www.bankofcanada.ca/rates/exchange/daily-converter/

The problem is with the site you have used.

Thanks so much!

Who would have thought such a discrepancy could happen!  I sure won't use that site again!

Too bad it wasn't Ebay's fault, though - now it'll cost me more than I thought - lol...!

Have a great day!

I took another look at that site and used their calculator as follows:

£100 = US$  156..34

£100 = Cdn$ 161.39

Obviously these guys do not know what they are doing or.... they are grossly outdated.  Look at the bottom of the site:

The dangers of a zombie website.

They stopped being correct over 6 years ago.

Although I'd love to use their exchange rate of 1 dollar CA being worth 96.87 cents US when buying inventory.
