eBay automatic positive feedback for refunds

eBay requested I leave feedback about an item that was refunded that has never shown up.  I was prompted that the seller would automatically receive a positive review for issuing me a refund although I'm sure the seller straight up lied about knowing where my shipment was and assured me it was on its way the last week of may first week of june.  The item was ordered last week of April and still hasn't arrived. What is the point of asking for my feedback if you've decided that because a refund was issued that you would provide FALSE feedback for me?

Your were given wrong information.  A refund definitely does not generate automatic feedback.

Feedback is voluntary and is not used by eBay to assess seller accounts.

I'm assuming that you opened a Dispute and the seller refunded promptly?
If you did that, but eBay refunded you rather than the seller himself (and it is not easy for the buyer to tell the difference) your seller got a Defect.

He may think getting positive feedback will have some effect on that.

It won't.

Any feedback left for a buyer must be positive.
