Don't qualify for 5K free listings on eBay.ca due to Below Standard on eBay.com?

Perhaps someone can enlighten me, because the 3 hours on 2 separate days with customer service has been completely pointless no matter how many time I repeat myself. Its a long story but if someone could tell me if it makes sense it would be appreciated.

I used to sell primarily on eBay.com and originally had my account registered in the US because I was there. When I started selling from Canada I forgot to change my registration address to a Canadian one. So around my May evaluation due to the impatience of some buyers of comic books from the US my Shipping time fell below the minimum standards placing me below standard in the US and on eBay.com.

Around the same time was when the passwords had to be changed and I noticed that my registration was still in the US so I changed my address to my Canadian address.

Since I was doing my selling from Canada I figured I'd use the eBay.ca site instead since globally I was an Above Standard seller according to the requirements for selling on eBay.ca, unlike the US site where I was Below Standard because it only takes into account your transactions with other Americans.

As I had a fair bit to list I decided to save on fees I'd open a Premium level store. However for some reason eBay.ca claimed I was Below Standard even though my Seller Dashboard said otherwise. Not too worried about it I just opened a Basic store to start.

Then with the new 5K free listings promotion I figured great I wouldn't have to upgrade my store and could list a bunch of stuff, but I wasn't showing up as eligible on the promotional offers through eBay.ca and still wasn't able to upgrade past a basic store.

So I called customer service and after nearly 2 hours figured that because any appeal would take the same time or longer then waiting for the next evaluation to roll around, which in theory might adjust things properly, I decided to wait it out.

This months evaluation rolled around and again for selling on eBay.ca I am still listed as Above Standard. On eBay.com I am still Below Standard. I'm still not eligibile for the promotion nor to upgrade my account past a Basic store on eBay.ca becuasse I faile= to meet the minimum standards, aparently Above Standard isn't high enough?

So expecting it to go poorly I called Customer Service again and haven't managed to get anything resolved yet after talking to 3 different people for over and hour and having a rep insist that they think the requirements for selling on eBay.ca are the same as selling on eBay.com. I'm currently waiting for a supervisor to call me back.

So the condensed version is that my eBay.com Below Standard rating is affecting my ability to do things on eBay.ca even though I'm an Above Standard seller on eBay.ca. Any one able to help me on this?

Duplicate post so I'll just copy and paste what I replied on your other thread...

You are listing on .ca and shipping to the U.S. so your listings are also showing on .com. Perhaps that is why the below standard rating takes preference?

That doesn't make sense to me. Perhaps you can elaborate? I'm shipping globally to everyone and not quite sure how where I'm shipping the package to should make a difference on my ability to upgrade my Store or get the free listings?

I'm pretty sure that .com trumps .ca. Does not matter where you "belong to" or what site you list on. As far as ebay.com is concerned, you are below standard.

As a side note, there is no actual Canada as per eBay. Canada falls under the heading of, and I am not making this up, associated markets.

Your only option is to work hard and get back to standard.

Its not so much related to where you are shipping to but that your listings are showing on .com and that is where you are restricted. It wouldn't make sense if a U.S. seller were able to move all of their listings to .ca just so that they could receive the benefits that they are not able to receive on .com.

See my problem is that through eBay.ca Seller performance Standards are as follows

http://pages.ebay.ca/help/policies/seller-non-performance.html

where as for US sellers the Seller Performance Standards are

http://pages.ebay.com/help/policies/seller-non-performance.html

One of main differences is the following under detailed seller ratings that determine whether I'm meeting the minimum standard:

In Canada

To meet the minimum performance standards that are required to sell on eBay.ca, the number of 1 and 2 ratings you receive on your detailed seller ratings can't exceed a certain percentage of your total transactions with global buyers.

In The US

To meet the minimum performance standards that are required to sell on eBay.com, the number of 1 and 2 ratings you receive on your detailed seller ratings can't exceed a certain percentage of your total transactions with US buyers.

So as far as I can tell especially is my Seller Dashboard for lists me as Above Standard Globally whatever I'm doing in the US shouldn't matter.

If the standards were the same on both sites your point would would be valid, but the seller performance standards are different on each site.

Also as an extension of your idea if my auctions didn't appear on eBay.com and I listed in Canadian currency I wouldn't have any problems and would qualify for the free listings. This is not the case.

Please clarify for me if I'm missing your point.

I get your frustration. I have been exactly where you are. CSR Peggy will be of no help as they are not versed in standards and how they affect selling.

Dot com is the mother ship and all other countries plus "globally" is simple window dressing to give us some sort of self-importance.

Somewhat moot as you only have 78 listings going out of 500.

Not really sure where to go from here, open to suggestions.

The 78 listings is because I was going to use the free listings to clear out some 1,000 or so Items I have lying around waiting to list. I really I was hoping to upgrade to a higher level store for the reduction on auction listing fees as it would save me a couple of hundred dollars in fees. At this rate however I'm going to have to pay the extra $300 or so in fees because of eBay's inability to provide an adequate solution to my problem despite wasting 3 hrs with customer care.

There is nowhere to go. You have to work hard and go forward. It was a year or two ago, I went from below standard, to standard, to above, in 3 or so months.

I know why I fell below standard and corrected all of those things. Simple determination and now I have that shiny gold ribbon that says I am a TRP seller. That was never a goal, far from it. Simply a benefit of holding myself to a higher standard.

Sometimes, that higher standard is more like holding my feet to the fire, but, I do it regardless.

Until you are no longer below standard on dot com, there is not much you can do about it.

I am just guessing and just giving my opinion as to why you are limited. Because of the way the system works, if you were to get the above standard placement on .ca, you would by default also receive the same benefits on .com even though you are are below standard on .com. So to me, what you do on the U.S. site would matter. Obviously you disagree so we will have to agree to disagree 🙂

Do you know that you can list 100 free auctions in that category on .ca plus. 100 free auctions  on .com? Unless you have already used those up you can do 200 from now until the end of June and another 200 in July for free. I know that's a far cry from 5000 but it will save you a few dollars.

All I can suggest is that you ask your question at the weekly board hour that the Canadian reps have. It is on Wednesday at 1p.m. eastern. If you aren't able to be there then perhaps you can ask someone to post your question for you.

The standards do change on the August 20th evaluation. That doesn't do you much good now but perhaps your status will change then?

Maybe it's just too late (early) and I'm mentally checking out, but I've read this three times and I'm still not following you here, 'pj' .  Can you rephrase/elaborate?
