Hey everyone! So I have a brand new account and would like to sell a few German beer Steins. Will it be safe to list them or do I have to get some sort of permission from ebay at first ? Thank you.

There shouldn't be any issues with you listing your beer steins; no permissions are required.

As a new seller you will likely be restricted to ~10 or so listings so you can build a presence (and gain trust from eBay) on the platform. Take that into consideration when deciding what to list - if you have many items then maybe select the ones that have the best sell-through rate on the platform (i.e. the number of items that have actually sold vs. the number of items that are currently up for sale).

As a new seller you may be targeted by people trying to scam you - only ship once you have confirmed payment. If you are accepting offers then be wary of any offers matching or exceeding your asking price.

Ensure you have successfully linked a Canadian chequing account to receive payment for your sales.

Best of luck!

DO YOU HAVE A MANAGED PAYMENTS ACCOUNT???

Without that eBay cannot transfer money to your checking account and  you will not get paid.

You need a checking account in a Canadian bank. Then you are asked for further ID. I used my passport, DH used his driving license.

Avoid the micro-payments, there is often a problem because of foreign exchange.

And be ready to open a new account at a different bank if the first one doesn't work.

  • Usually everything goes fine, but if eBay won't accept a given bank (and they have been reported as refusing to recognize pretty well every bank in Canada at one time or another while accepting every one at another point. Either don't argue and make a new account or invest in Metamucil for your upcoming ulcer.)

When you do get paid, your money will be Held for 30 days against your customer service.

You can pay for a shipping label out of those Held funds though.

Here are the links to the eBay employees on social media. (The phone reps do NOT work for eBay)

And here is the link to Canada Post  rates.

And to get your Solutions for Small Business number which gives some discounts and promos.

You also need that number for some of the non-Canada Post shipping services,

  • because what is happening behind the curtain is that those services still use Canada Post (which is cheap and efficient) and conglomerate all our purchases through the service to get a much better rate from Canada Post.

Shipping is the hardest part of selling online.

Search the Boards for "chitchatexpress" and for Cookie Jar Insurance.
