Getting outbid at last second?

I was highest bidder and watched the last few seconds tick to zero. Then as time expired, it flashed, "you were outbid" and it sold for $1.00 more than my bid - how did that happen? Thanks.

Re: Getting outbid at last second?

Someone (the winner) waited until the lasts few seconds of the auction to confirm his bid. And it appears that his bid was higher than your highest bid. That's why we won.

Re: Getting outbid at last second?

To be clear-- he won by one 'increment' over the highest bid you had entered.

In this case, that was a dollar.

But his maximum bid could have been anything: a dollar , $1.01, $101.00 higher than yours.

It is not the last bid that wins, it is the highest.

The key to winning is to bid your maximum (don't forget to allow for the shipping cost when you decide the maximum you will bid).

Bid once. Don't try to nibble your way to the win. There are smarter more experienced mice out there.

Some say bid late to hide from other bidders who might try to beat you. Some say bid early to discourage other bidders who might try to beat you. Meh.

And if someone bids more that you would be willing to pay, then isn't he the sucker for overpaying?

Here's ebay bidding policies. You might want to read it to get a better understanding of how things work around here:

Non payers should get unpaid item strikes and be added to block bidders lists. Period.
