If the seller reduces the price, can you ask for the difference back?

Specifically talking about this:

My friend purchased this on Tuesday, at $404.99 + tax. He has yet to receive the item, but can he ask for the difference in price? I know that big store retailers do offer a price match if you bought a recent item that went on sale.

Or does he have to send it back and then buy it again, which given the price for shipping probably isn't worth it.

Thank you,

You can ask but do not expect it.

Click on the quantity sold (140).  you will see all but the last two were sold at the regular price.  Now the seller has a special ($80.00 off), starting today, instead of the old special of $45 off.

It is no different than buying a loaf of bread at the market one day for $2.99 and finding it on sale a few days later for $1.99.

Will you ask the merchant for a refund?  Will you get it?

Yeah, he'll be asking regardless (can't win if you don't try :P)

He just has no luck at all sometimes.

"He just has no luck at all sometimes"

????

Why?  He purchased an item at a good price. Hundreds of other buyers paid the same price and are happy with their transactions.

The fact the price has been lowered today should not change the value of the decision he made to buy the item a few days ago.
