Shipping ?

So many times have I seen an article at a decent price . But the shipping is extremely inflated. 2 and 3 times what it should be. To me sellers like these should be banned.

Re: Shipping ?

If every buyer felt like you, nobody would purchase anything from these sellers and they would soon be out of business.

Re: Shipping ?

Hmmph - I understand.

Three times the cost is bad enough.  How would you feel about 7-8 times as much?  Apparently ebay thinks it's all right.

I saw a new seller with no feedback from china with 5 high-priced electronics items.  Two items were exactly the same, but listed under two different categories.

He/she was only providing STANDARD international shipping for an item weighing under 8 lbs.  In one auction he had the shipping at $185, in another at $232.

FOR EIGHT POUNDS at STANDARD shipping!

Funny enough, all 5 auctions were 3 day auctions, ending within 15 minutes of one another.

I have received a 30 lb monitor from china at $55 dollars, no way this is right, and most likely not legit/fraudulent, but to give the benefit of the doubt for a legitimate auction, the shipping was still absolutely beyond.

I reported as best I could as far as the shipping, but still see the auctions up and running.

"Apparently ebay thinks it's all right."

Not really.  eBay simply does not know there is a problem unless the overcharge is reported by users/buyers.

With two hundred million listings on eBay, they are not checked for accuracy or overcharge by eBay.  To have each listing reviewed by a human being would cost a fortune resulting in a doubling or tripling of the fees.  Nobody wants that and everybody loses.

Do the calculation: 200,000,000 listings reviewed individually at the rate of one every two minutes, would require six million man/hours (without a break).  At $15 per hour, it works out to over $100,000,000 plus benefits.  I do not think sellers are willing to pay extra fees to cover that cost.

If you see a problem, use the report button and report it.

As stated earlier, if everybody refuses to buy from those sellers, they will soon be out of business.  They are still in business because folks keep buying!

I am wondering if you know the actual cost of the shipping or if you "perceive" that it is too high.  Many times the actual cost to ship bulky items can be high but it isn't the fault of the seller.  They have to pay what the Post Office or other carrier charges.

You may be correct because in many cases the sellers do overcharge for shipping.  I usually avoid them too.

Re: Shipping ?

My outlook now and years before was always and will alwqays be I will buy it of the cheapest combined price .. If the seller want to charge me $1 plus $150 shipping I don't care as long as I get a good deal.. I mean if it is the cheapest it is the cheapest lain and simple...

If you buy something and agree to the shipping when you click buy now why bug the seller when you knew it was that before you bought it ...

I have buyers say if i buy 5 movies how much will i save on shipping ... The Answer I give $1 but if I charged what I pay you would get $0 and depending where you live in Canada you might even have to pay $1 or $2 more ..

honest buyers get frustrated but what they don't realize is dishonest buyers ruin alot of things for the honest ones...

1 Seller I know from the US use to charege $4 shipping now he charges $11.40 because to many buyers scammed them because there was no tracking...

How can you blame sellers?Firstly check if it is eBay calculators.Often sellers are not even aware.Ask for a shipping rate from seller and in most cases they will reply.Shipping is no longer inexpensive.Rates have gone very high + to make it worse eBay does get a commission on shipping expenses and it is pretty high.Maybe you should complain to ebay that it is NOT FAIR that they make money on the listing then they get commission on the Final sale value and + they get commission on shipping where often the seller looses money.

Re: Shipping ?

Is the combined price good? If not move on, no one is forcing you to buy from them and like Pierre said if they're not out of business someone is obviously buying from them.

Re: Shipping ?

I recently bought an item to add to my collection,  not big, not expensive, but letter size. I knew the S&H charge was an inflated $10. Having bought many times before I knew the actual mailing charge would be around $3 - $4.  I got the package and sure enough the actual mailing cost was about $3.10.

When using the DSR feature for this item I figured if the procedure gives me an opportunity to leave a low star rating for Shipping Charges, so why not tell the truth as to my feelings.  I gave the seller a one star rating for S&H.  Yes I knowingly agreed to all costs related to the purchase, but Ebay still gave me a chance to complain through the DSR.

First of all, who said anything about business? I usually by from individuals, so your argument is invalid.

Second, good. Who would complain if unscrupulous sellers go out of business?

Finally, yes people keep buying because we have no choice. If we are trying to get something, then we may not have another option if it is not available locally. Moreover, some of us have OCD and could not just “not buy it”.

Re: Shipping ?

"Except that it doesn’t work. I have reported numerous listings that had glaring problems and every time I checked on them a few days later, nothing had changed."

When an item is reported, eBay will generally - over the next few days - contact the seller, mention what the problem is, and ask the seller to correct the problem by revising the listing(s) as soon as possible.

Items are not pulled off the site unless the infraction is HUGE (such as pornographic image, etc...)

And yes, sometimes it gets very frustrating to report many listings from the same seller who is clearly breaking the rules and see the listings go uncorrected for weeks or months as if eBay does not care.

"yes people keep buying because we have no choice."

Can you offer a better solution?

Yes, use the local classifieds (such as Craig’s List or eBay Classifieds and Kijiji which are both owned by eBay) instead and only resort to eBay if you cannot find something locally. That way, you can personally see the item and forgo shipping costs. Moreover, local classifieds allow for giving things away for free whereas that is not possible with eBay.

Re: Shipping ?

Oh, and local classifieds are also better for the environment since they avoid pollution via shipping.

It doesn't matter if you report those sellers to eBay.  I think eBay is happy because they get to charge the sellers the final value fees on shipping cost, so either way eBay wants it regardless of what.  That is one of their many conspiracy!

Perhaps if you walk or bike over to the seller's place.

But if you drive, or even take the bus, or meet at a central point with either one of you not walking, you are still using petroleum. And my niece in Fort McMurray thanks you for keeping  her community prosperous.

You are so right!! Listing fee + Final value fee + Paypal fee + Final value fee on listing = Very Little Profit!!
