Thinking of changing shippers from Canada Post to Fedex or Purolator. Does anyone have experience with them?

I ship from Canada to USA and Canada only. I have recently had some issues with Canada Post so want to explore alternatives. What about cross border or customs fees?

Courier companies charge a much higher brokerage fee than the $8.50 Canada Post charges, resulting in an unpleasant surprise for the buyer.

Americans can import an item up to $200 without any import fees but if you use a courier for your higher priced items, your buyer could be charged some unexpected hefty fees. The brokerage fees are less for express services versus ground services but they may still have to pay duty and taxes which most Americans aren't used to.

.

For info about shipping with a courier inside of Canada, you could ask about that on the sellers central discussion board. (click on discussion boards on the left side of this page) There is a seller there named dipmicro who uses couriers more than most of us do and I'm sure he can give you some more info.

Is the problem with Canada Post or with a particular Post Office or Postal Outlet?

DD had to work around the staff at her local PO (the nearest other one was a mountain pass away), but the rates and delivery time from Canada Post itself were worth the effort.

And the CP staff member is approaching retirement age....

Replying to reallynicestamps. The problem is with CP's insurance service. Response time and communication is poor and tends to be adversarial instead of helpful.
