Ebay using independent couriers to deliver parcels?

I ordered something from the states through Ebay's Global Shipping program and the tracking for the final mile showed Purolator as the courier with a tracking number was invalid. I have only ever received GSP shipments via Canada Post so seeing Purolator was a bit odd. A few days goes by and still nothing, but I have now received the email from Ebay telling me that the item was successfully delivered. I checked my lobby, with neighbours, called Purolator and Canada Post and none of them had a package for me. I opened a case for item not received and Ebay intercepted the request and provided an alternative tracking number for the website sprintstar.ca. This site looks like a scam, with no links other than an "enter tracking number".

The second tracking number/tracking via email link that they provided indicates it was delivered over a week ago and was left at the door in my apartment building. Ebay has advised me to file a police report in order to have them consider a resolution. Am I allowed to file a police based on assumption that the item was stolen? I have no information regarding the status of the package other than a site that appears to be a scam. The tracking number that ebay provided via my item not received request also conflicts with the carrier and tracking number in My Ebay. I have confirmed that the email came directly from ebay and isn't a phishing scam of some sort. I also looked up sprintstar.ca and can't seem to find much info on them,  but if they are a part of landmark couriers it looks like they get horrible reviews online. I must have spent about 20k on ebay in the past year and I get asked to file a police report for a $30 USD transaction for 3 broken laptop screens, which by the way came to about $70 after the GSP. I won't be using that BS anymore.

They're called porch pirates. Stealing unattended parcels. The courier was sloppy to leave it in a public lobby rather than leaving a pickup notice.

Do as eBay says.

But you should be dealing with a GSP specialist, not ordinary eBay staff.

Are you literally "speaking " with eBay?

Ask to be transferred to the specialist.

GSP (spit spit spit) has been pretty good about refunding on problem transactions.

In this case, GSP was responsible for their sub-contractor leaving the package unprotected.

It might work if you can talk to them (GSP is run by PitneyBowes, yes, the postage meter people, they expanded.)

GSP normally does use Canada Post. I've seen CanPar and FedEx noted in complaints about GSP deliveries-- while CP carries most of the load efficiently.

conflicts with the carrier and tracking number in My Ebay.

Is that a USPS tracking number delivered to Erlanger KY?  That's normal. It's the location of the GSP plant.

It is because GSP in its desire to be consumer friendly does not require signature. So the allow a "safe drop" which means if the carrier thinks the parcel will be safe in the trash bin, that's where it's left. (That's just a wild example, not sure I've ever heard of a parcel being safe dropped in the trash)

Traditionally it's in the BBQ on the front porch.

Who has a BBQ on the FRONT porch.

That's where you keep the engine from the 87 Chevy you're tearing down for parts.

Re: Ebay using independent couriers to deliver parcels?

They've actually been using Purolator for some years. I find slightly heavier parcels often come with them, with Canada Post getting the lighter stuff. Amazon uses them as well sometimes. While they haven't lost anything of mine, I do find some drivers tend to leave things right outside my apartment door after the quickest of knocks and not waiting to see if anyone is home. The one that is annoying me right now is that they have been using Apple Express from time to time, which is an outfit that doesn't even bother trying to get into the building, or even leave a card. They just take it to their pick up location, which isn't exactly the easiest place to get to without a car.

From the internet .....

Purolator is a Canadian courier that is 91% owned by Canada Post.

This explains why Purolator and Canada Post appear to work together

Re: Ebay using independent couriers to deliver parcels?

Ok...have bought a couple hundred items off eBay, years more recently through GSP. Never had much issue (other than some issues with costs). Suddenly they start using Apple Express here in Toronto area and...they are 0/2. Claimed first shipment was delivered Aug 30 when it wasn't, and have now misplaced my latest purchase and as of today, they don't know where it is...after falsely claiming the address wasn't valid, which they now admit was a driver error. They are supposedly doing a trace but they tend not to be good at communicating.

I am seeing some pretty poor reviews online, obviously I take with a grain of salt. BUT...as of right now I won't buy off eBay using GSP until I get some hint things have settled down. I may be lucky but I have never had a significant issue with FedEx, UPS, Post Ect.

Not a good start with AE.

Re: Ebay using independent couriers to deliver parcels?

I should clarify my statement that Apple Express claimed they safe dropped August 30. When I called to tell them I didn't get it... they insisted driver remembered leaving it. They directed me to file a claim with eBay and make a police report.

Funny thing, 10 days later UPS, yes UPS... comes to my door with a package I had to sign for. It was the package AE said they safe dropped 10 days earlier...I was dumbfounded. I checked packing slip....Apple Express used UPS to send it to me, dated several days after they claimed to have delivered it. Mind blowing!!!!

tyler@ebay

Tyler, might be good to get details on this and see if any improvements could be made. This doesnt sound like a very good supply chain PBI has decided to use and could have cost this customer his MBG if AE had really messed up.

Re: Ebay using independent couriers to deliver parcels?

I'm glad this worked out-- sorta.

But if it had not, the Dispute with eBay should include that shipping was through the GSP and asking for a GSP specialist.

If they have some proof of delivery, though, there could be more problems.

Generally the GSP (spit spit spit) is good about refunding when there is a problem.  If only because it's cheaper to refund than to fight.
