1)I'd like to know how to get an answer when asking a question regarding how a post has violated board policy. Simply replying to the email received from eBay doesn't seem to work.

When it is not apparent what the violation is, which often happens, what is a person supposed to do? Avoid posting entirely?

2) Are the "Less Than 10 Feedback" posting limits really necessary on the Canadian boards? If so, when will these posting limits go into effect and will board participants be given some warning or will such participants suddenly find themselves limited one day?

I'd like to know what criteria is used to deem something like a cartoon wiggly baby bum as "pornographic".

When will those that got suspended during the big clamp down a few weeks ago be allowed to post again?

I may be missing it, but I can't find any reference in the new policy regarding posts about auctions in which the poster is directly involved - i.e. either the actual buyer or seller.

It used to be quite clear that you could post the auction number of the item if you were looking for help. For example, buyer says your TOS is misleading and you want opinions, or seller says shipping is $xx per TOS and you can't see this, etc.

Is this still permitted?

Hi Canajunflake,

In answer to your questions for #1. If you need clarification on what part of your post was a violation, you can forward the educational email generated by the moderation team to me at carly@ebay.com, and I can look at it for you and point out what/where the policy violation was. You don't have to avoid posting in the meantime, just make sure you keep your posts within the guidelines and you should be ok.

#2 The “Less than 10 Feedback” posting limitation will be introduced in early 2005, and I will communicate the live to site date well in advance, so everyone has a chance to familiarize themselves with the new policy clause.

Thanks for your questions, I hope this helps.

Hi Midlife*Mom,

Something like a cartoon wiggly baby bum is a violation of board policy as it is "includes graphics that are obscene, pornographic and adult in nature". They are not reflective of the positive community values, and many members of the community find them offensive.

Carly

Hi Canajun flake:

Auction numbers and links should never be posted for open listings. A member involved in a listing as either buyer or seller may post about a listing if they have a question or want advise about a problem.

Auction numbers and links should not be posted for closed listings if the purpose of the post is to call attention to a suspected violation, since these should simply be reported by the webform to the appropriate department.

There are rare times when a particular listing is newsworthy, such as the recent grilled cheese sandwich listing. On other occasions, there might be a question about an item, such as an antique or collectible glassware in which case a picture is helpful in identifying another piece. We are concerned that the boards not be used for advertising of listings, or promotion of a seller's items, so in most cases such links or numbers are removed.

Good Afternoon Carly

I for one appreciate the New Board Posting Policy. This is a public board and one has to remember that. This forum for the most part has been a place where people can feel comfortable corresponding with others without having to worry about conflict and viewing items that can offend. This policy reinforces that trend. For the majority of people on CTS it will not affect them but for the minority that decides to push the limit it will hopefully curb innapropriate postings gifs etc.

Hello it*techie,

When will those that got suspended during the big clamp down a few weeks ago be allowed to post again?

Suspensions are issued on an individual basis when a policy has been repeatedly violated, and the time period for a suspension should be outlined in the educational email notice from the moderation team. Some users can be suspended indefinitely and banned from posting to the boards in extreme cases.

If a user has been suspended and does not understand the terms of the suspension, or needs clarification on the length of time they are prohibited from posting to the discussion boards, they can always email me at carly@ebay.com, and I can help explain.

hohoho, the irony. 'adult' themed threads are not allowed as 'kids' may read the board, but there have been 2 threads which openly 'reveal'...um... childhood mythology. hohoho.
no reply required, just enjoying carrying that double standard around. i realise there is a moral minority that sets the board.

HI Haytaps & Weaversofspeech,

Thanks for popping in, and showing your support for the improved climate on the boards, and the revised posting policy. I think it will have a positive long term effect on our community, and reduce the amount of interpersonal conflicts and create a more supporting environment for buyer and sellers who enjoy the social side of eBay, and like posting to the boards.

We also don't want to scare off any new visitors to the boards, with offensive pictures and interpersonal conflicts.

Re: Workshop on Updated Discussion Board Posting Policy: Monday, December 6, 4-5 PM ET

Ok, not posting auction numbers, is that for our own auctions or can we post ones for general interest like say the "grilled cheese virgin mary" thread or the ghost cane one? We are not bidding just finding them amusing but we aren't supposed to post the auction number or the link?
