Hi Haytaps,

You are correct, when someone is trying to disguise swear words by putting the first & last letters and placing ** or $$ in the middle of the word, it is obviously cursing going on which is not allowed.

Potty mouth and mentions of bodily elimination, are offensive and have no place on the boards, they should be reported, as they will be removed.

Hi. I am curious as to the reporting procedure. I reported a post one evening as I felt that the way that it was worded bordered on being hate speech. I expected to be have to explain why I felt that way and was upset that there is no place to state why I was reporting a post. I sent an e-mail to you as the post was not removed (which I still find offensive) and I never heard back.

I don't expect you to always know why I find something offensive, however if you not going to remove the post then I think you should have the decency to contact me and explain why. It took a lot for me to report that post and I don't think that eBay showed much consideration.

I have not reported a link in one of the threads that leads to an identified 'hate site' as I was not happy with my first experience reporting. I really do not understand how a baby bum could be more offensive than a hate site. I would like to know how you determine what is offensive.

Hi figgfamily,

Auction numbers for listings should not be posted in a way that they are promoting or highlighting a specific listing. The boards are not a place for advertising your own or others listings here is an example : "Come and check out my amazing auction #0000, my price is the lowest in town!"

Hope this clarifies.

Hi and just a quick question before you go!

Is it totally acceptable for an OP to report (and therefore subsequently have pulled by LW) their own threads..for reasons, say, such as they have issues with one or more of the contributors to their thread?

Hi Cats1953,

I am sorry that you had this experience, and if I did not respond to your email. eBay does appreciate your reporting things you believe to be in violation. In some cases the moderation team may not always agree with your assessment, but if others also find it offensive and report it that will result in an additional review.

You are absolutely correct in questioning and reporting hate speech, it is not tolerated in any way on the discussion boards. I encourage you to press the report button every time you see this on the boards.

If this post is still live, would you mind forwarding it to me now at carly@ebay.com, and I will review it.

Thanks,
Carly

Pulling a thread can be for many reasons.
For instance I began a discussion that was topical to the American President's visit to Canada and gave posters an opportunity to voice their views but pulled the thread after the Rt. Hon. left.

Hi Everyone,

Well I think we are out of time for today, I would like to thank everyone for attending the workshop. I am going to lock the thread, so it can remain as a reference thread for the next few weeks. I hope it has been helpful, and if there are any questions I did not get a chance to answer I will be sure and go in tomorrow and post more answers.

You can also email questions to me at carly@ebay.com, and I can send you an answer.

Thanks!

Hi Nan 🙂

I was more referring to the series of coincidences that keep happening..wherefore particular posters contribute to a thread, and POOF!! the thread disappears..without there having been anything detrimental to it... Of course they are only coincidences....

But..good point to add about that too, Steph.

Hi Von*dra,

Yes, any thread that you initiated can be self reported, and will be taken down.
