GTC - Good Til Canceled - another rip off?

I'm totally against the Good til cancelled procedure BEING FORCED ON ME

tried to list an item a couple of days ago on ebay.com - didn't give me a choice - and that REALLY ticked me off.

If I don't sell it within 30 days, I want to take it off the market and try at a later time. If I accept then I have to monitor and delete the listing -  just another thing to cancel. It's easy enough to relist - as long as Ebay doesn't change their policy and delete my file within a couple of days after the 30 days are up .

I see it as another way for EBay to nickel and dime their clients, because it certainly isn't HELPING me if I have to pay more.

What ever happend to having a CHOICE ? Is EBAY selling SHAREs in the company to the RUSSIANS now? That's excactly what I expect Putin would implement.

There is a Not Applicable choice on the drop down menu for ISBN, UPC and MPN.

Or you can look up the SKU (although I thought those were private /in-store numbers not from manufacturers) online if the item is new enough to ever have had them.

@teenytrinkets

How do you list on .com and still specify Canadian shipping?

You use Flat Rate Shipping from an International Location.

And then :

https://www.canadapost.ca/cpotools/apps/far/business/findARate?execution=e1s1

to work out what that Flat Rate should be.

For USA I usually use 90210 as a destination zipcode.

@drygallen

I get most offers in the last few days of a listing because people think item might not be relisted.

I notice the same thing-- and all my listings have been GTC for years.

There is a Search called Ending Soonest.

Apparently your buyers like using it.

But.

All GTC listing do actually end after 30 days.

And they show on that Search.

Then if none of those Searching buyers buy it-- it relists automatically.

I also think many sellers overestimate the sophistication of buyers.

The most popular Search remains the default Best Match.

Most buyers never notice there are others.

And the second most popular is Lowest Price.

Not even Lowest Price plus Shipping.

Keep in mind that ALL sellers using Fixed Price are now defaulted into GTC listings.

Does that mean that no sellers are getting any sales because all buyers are waiting for those listings to disappear?

I don't like this either, so at the end of my item description I add in bold text.
7 Day Listing : Listings ends on -----date ------time. And then at that date and
time I end my listing with " item no longer for sale".

@femmefan1946

My personal favorite for search is Distance - Nearest First(Canada)...Hopefully with the thought shipping would be quicker and hopefully lower in cost and no worry of customs. Not always but it works for me.  2nd choice would be  Lowest Price plus shipping. Best Match I would describe as inaccurate, but only to be polite!!
