Managed Payments: Results May Vary

So..... are all sellers now operating under Managed Payments in ebay.ca? My account was activated a few weeks ago and the results have been underwhelming to frame it politely.

I'm waiting a minimum of two days to a maximum of a full seven days for payments to be deposited in my chequing account and there seems to be no rhyme nor reason to it. Under the old system, with payments submit to me through PayPal, those funds would be deposited to my account within hours in most cases. If I withdrew a PayPal balance before noon CST on a weekday, it would be sitting in my bank account by suppertime that same day.

This Managed Payment system through ebay does not thus far compare favourably. Whose fault is that? Adyen? If it's the payment processor to blame then why did the company pick such a lame duck with which to do business?

I have another website where I accept payments through a different payment processor (neither PayPal nor Adyen) and I see that money in my account the next day often by midday.

Managed Payments seems to, quite frankly, stink compared to the way it used to be.

I expected better than this. It's discouraging to me a seller that my buyers can have their items in hand long before ebay sees fit to deliver the money to me paid to have it.

What kind of turnaround times are others seeing?

Re: Managed Payments: Results May Vary

I'm holding out until they allow multiple bank accounts including having an American bank account on a Canadian MP account.

I suspect many larger eBay sellers are in the same position. (My American account is from the days when we used it for the shop -now close- and the auction- now under new management.)

And I guess eBay is not going to try to get the Chinese sellers into MP, because they would be demanding the same privileges they have will Paypal- Chinese and American bank accounts.

Re: Managed Payments: Results May Vary

Managed Payments has been my option on eBay since August 17.

Payouts initially occurred daily... my way of testing the system... Then payouts occurred weekly every Tuesday.

eBay made the payout early Tuesday morning   and the money was usually  in my bank account the same evening and recorded on Wednesday.

The same occurred until  the most recent  payout....  the money showed in my account  after two days...  The most recent payout was sent on Tuesday  and it showed in my account on Thursday

eBay states that it will take 3 to 4 business for a payout to reach my bank account..

For me it has been 1 to 2 days... so far....usually one day

Money from Paypal had been arriving quite quickly in my bank account...

---------------------------------

How quickly the money arrives in a bank account is most likely due to the bank  and not eBay payouts....

How are folks observations as far as it goes for bookkeeping/record keeping in MP compared to the system from long ago with PayPal? Have you noticed any "real" savings or is it minimal? Would you say it's as advertised...Simplified?

Re: Managed Payments: Results May Vary

I haven't been invited to join yet.  I sell mostly on .ca but usually have 20 or so listings on .com every month when I have used up my free listings on .ca.

Apparently, because I have listings on both sites, I have not been invited to join.  This is fine by me as I am quite happy  with Paypal and having money in both Canadian & US dollars.  The Managed Payments can only handle money in one denomination.  (so I have heard)

Re: Managed Payments: Results May Vary

Payouts include the total for item sold plus postage...

FVF are NOT deleted before the payout is received in my bank account.

---------------

The monthly invoice includes  the store subscription,  the FVF and then GST ( calculated on the total  for store subscription and FVF).       ( I  live in Manitoba, a GST province, and am registered to collect GST/HST.  This GST amount becomes an Input Tax Credit)

With Managed Payments there was always a question with respect to the calculation of GST on FVF if the FVF was removed before a payout was made.... Not removing FVF before a payout is made makes the calculation of GST on FVF a very easy activity.

The FVF with Managed Payments includes what used to be Paypal fees.  It took a while to get used to  the fact this was happening .  The total for fees used to be eBay FVF plus Paypal fees.  Now this total is one value for Managed Payment fees.

With Managed Payments  GST is now calculated on what used to be Paypal fees....  GST (HST) was not calculated on Paypal fees.

----------------------------------

The values used for tax purposes include:

(1) Payouts = Item price plus shipping cost

(2) Monthly invoices  include.... (a) store subscription ...(b) FVF ... and (c) GST  calculated on  the sum of  Store Subscription plus FVF.

Payouts also include the GST/HST calculated on all sales  plus postage to Canadian buyers.

-------------------------------------

It will take a while to adjust to the new reality of Managed Payments....

Day-by-Day ...Week-by-Week...  Month-by-Month

This has been no big problem.

Re: Managed Payments: Results May Vary

Hello,

I'm still waiting for my invitation.

Is this something that ebay is rolling out gradually or is it up to the sellers to take the initiative to sign up?

Re: Managed Payments: Results May Vary

It is eBay that invites a seller to register for Managed Payments.

and then the seller goes through the process....

Many sellers register..... and some say good-bye to eBay.

Managed Payments is a good eBay option for money management....  Good-bye Paypal

Re: Managed Payments: Results May Vary

In hindsight, I would have declined my invitation to opt into Managed Payments (although ebay makes it an offer you cannot refuse, The Godfather-style) because I simply cannot afford to wait a week to be paid for something when I used to see it within six hours or so. Postage label payments will be declined NSF from my bank account if this continues. I could change my handing time to ten days if ebay wants me to wait to see the money they owe me before I can pay to ship the item to the buyer.

If the marketplace expects me to be able to pay to ship my order to my customer in a timely fashion, it needs to give me the funds to do so in a timely fashion. It is my expectation as a valued small business owner (according to the latest ebay marketing) that the service provided to me for which I am paying ebay will improve with time and not decline. Making me wait seven days for my funds when I used to get them within seven hours is not an improvement of service. It feels ludicrous to me to even have to state that fact.

Can we get someone from ebay here?

I want to opt out of Managed Payments until I can rely on timely service.

Just another nail in the so-long-and-thanks-for-all-the-fish coffin.

Re: Managed Payments: Results May Vary

In practice, postage is supposed to be available/pulled from "pending" funds with MP. Would it work the same way when a seller uses free shipping. Technically any postage has to be paid somehow. Be it PayPal or Shippo. (Unless they use postage stamps for everything, pay at counter or CP website with a credit card.) Or this new service that was announced in the Spring Update that is still not in physically available.

Postage won’t be available from pending payments until they get ebay labels set up through .ca.

Re: Managed Payments: Results May Vary

Adjust your time schedule.... where ...Sales from seven days ago pay for today's and tomorrow's shipping costs ......  Let the payouts accumulate in a specific  account at your bank.  Always keep a certain amount there and use that for postage

-------------------------------

For me payouts are made every Tuesday.... The money will sit in the Managed Payments bank account at my bank for one week ......  and only with the next payout is this first amount of money transferred to another bank account where it becomes accessible/usable..

Re: Managed Payments: Results May Vary

Let your payouts accumulated in your bank account....  This amount would be your source for postage...

Have a baseline such as $200 in this account ...... Then on the same day each week  transfer everything above $200 to another bank account....

The baseline amount will always be there to pay for postage.

@cumos55

Sort of defeats the purpose of putting out one of those quarterly Announcements/Updates/Improvements messages, then not following through or being proactive as to explaining why.

Re: Managed Payments: Results May Vary

Hopefully, the MP transaction reports include a bit more info than the new Sales Reports do, those are cute and all but are all but useless, especiially so for book-keeping.

Data NOT found in reports;

  • Date, nothing, nada, beyond a simple line stating the report's date range.
  • Shipping Address, nothing, nada, not even a country!
  • Custom Label, nope, not included, so much for filtering sales that way, cannot filter or even order by date or location either.
  • GST/HST, no breakout of GST/HST included in ebay fees charged to seller, on the flip side, all taxes of any sort paid to sellers by buyers are lumped together in a single column.

Another report short-coming is available date ranges, there is a custom date range option available but it seems to ignore range requests beyond 3 months. For example if I request 01/01/2020 - 30/09/2020 only the final 3 months are reported. I can get a 01/01/2020 - 31/03/2020 report if I limit the request to that specific date range.

I'm hopeful others report much better reporting than this is available once enrolled in MP.

I've not yet been invited as I list on .ca, .com and have briefly dabbled on .co.uk too.

Re: Managed Payments: Results May Vary

tyler@ebay

The questions about postage labels (post #10 and subsequent) are something I had not considered, since personally I use discount postage stamps.

Is it time for a Managed Payments specialist to visit for an open discussion?

Re: Managed Payments: Results May Vary

I've been holding out on signing up until the multiple bank accounts/multiple currencies situation is cleared up, but it is my practice with Paypal to use the Paid announcement as my record of payment and sale.
Does MP give the seller anything like that?

It confirms that PP has received a cleared payment and gives me the address as well as telling me what the buyer bought, with a link to the actual listing so I can make sure I'm sending the right thing.
And as noted, the PP payement also allows me to print a packing slip and a label if I wanted to.

Could someone post a screenshot of what MP actually sends to confirm payment?
