Ebay asking for UPC/EAN, material, color, brand etc and all time asking me to add to description but I haven't seen or heard anybody saying "my sales are up 45% or 65%" so let's assume it's not that Ebay changed the ranking algorithm. If it was going to supress listings and highlight others, the answer would be to optimize the listings.
Buyers still buy on ebay if it's hunting for significant bargain. Discounts is driving everybody to the bottom and nobody wins in the long term. In addition to unusual pattern of ecommerce this year, I do believe ecommerce has changed, it's more about promoting and drive sales from outside and it doesn't look like Ebay is going to do that.
